Wheel Bearing Install with Harbor Freight Universal Bearing Tool BMW 3 Series Rear Front

Wheel Bearing Install with Harbor Freight Universal Bearing Tool BMW 3 Series Rear Front

I spent about $150 on tools. These tools can be used for any bearings I may need to do in the future. I bought the tools at Harbor Freight.

Very nice, not too much talk, right to the topic.

János Simon says:

Where do you find those tools?

BadRonald1 says:

Can this apply to a 89 E30 ? I have to do this as well.

R Lopez says:

Tried the PVC method of pulling out the bearing, not successful at
all. Broke down and bought the HF bearing tool, took longer to open the box
than to pull out the bearing! Putting new one in was just as easy.
Problem: one half of the bearing just fell off when I gently put the hub on
and then pulled the hub out to get it ready to put in?? is this common??
and then I could not get the half on the bearing unit again??

dcfs2005 says:

Question for you, I noticed that you used your HB bearing tools to
“install” the hub into the steering knuckle/bearing, to remove it you used
that bearing separator in the video. My question is, can you use the same
Harbor Freight tool set (item #66829) to remove the hub (same one used to
install the hub back on)? I did not purchase the Large Bearing Separator
(item # 3979). Also, Is there an advantage to using a new wheel hub or can
you use the old one? Thank you.

dcfs2005 says:

Very nice two part video. You did it without replacing the steering
knuckle, like most guys on youtube. Is there an advantage to using a new
wheel hub or can you use the old one? I like your style, you work really
good, not sloppy like some.

EdzGarage says:

Has someone removed it before? Might be the wrong nut now or the nut has
been damaged.

EdzGarage says:

Not sure. I don’t see why not though.

motorman1700 says:

Great video! Do you have to pack the wheel bearing with grease?

EdzGarage says:

@VE9REJ Yep, no more cheap Chinese parts when it’s this much of a hassle to
do the job. Thanks Reg!

Randy Whatley says:

Great Vid! But didn’t you forget to put the Studs back in?

EdzGarage says:

Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Thanks for the comment and for watching!

djverhulst says:

Wel spend money for the tools, no more asking a shop to remove the barring
and pay for it., how much mile did drive this BMW that the barrings are
worn out ?

minerma says:

Hi Ed, do you know what bearing part number was for the timkin bearing

blackericdenice says:

Have you ever drop the pan and change your trans filter?

EdzGarage says:

I agree! Greaseable roller bearings should be standard on these cars.
Thanks for the comment!

mbyr31 says:

Good work Ed! I don’t mind some Harbor Freight tools….Especially the ones
you will only use a couple times…Ever. Hopefully you get more than 20k on
that bearing! Great vid bud

mallydangerous says:

@edzgarage Also, I meant to ask you if you want a link to the “BMW TIS
Online Repair Manuals” website. It’s been floating around BMW forums so I
wasn’t sure if you have it bookmarked already. The URL is tis .
spaghetticoder . org (remove the spaces, of course).

EdzGarage says:

Thanks for watching! The $tealership price is why I figured out another
way.

ShawnCFarm says:

Thats alot faster then what I do.

EdzGarage says:

You don’t have to mark the drums. I hope all goes well Tom.

EdzGarage says:

@mallydangerous That’s great! I need to go get $10 back lol

EdzGarage says:

No, I never did anything to the trans. It had 220k miles on it when it was
totaled in an accident. The trans was still in fine shape up to that point.

dcfs2005 says:

I have a 200 Corolla, can we just buy the hub assembly with the bearing
already installed? It cost about 70 bucks, thanks nice videos.

John Helsby says:

thanks for showing your vid in thinking that the e38 is the same as the
sensor magnetic race is damaged on mine

EdzGarage says:

Yes, the race is part of the bearing. These are sealed bearings.

EdzGarage says:

Great idea on the parking brake reinstallation. Thanks for the comment!

elmeziani says:

Nice and clearly vid! Replaced both bearings yesterday but noticed
something strange…..when turning the new bearing whith my hand, ( before
installing) the inner bearing turns around but the red sealing

M3 Pilot - Steve Smart says:

Thanks for the vid! How did you torque the nut to the proper spec? I’ve got
a torque wrench that only goes to about 120 ft/lbs. Do you use a
multiplier? I would like to have seen that part.

EdzGarage says:

@craig1974 Thanks Craig, it works great.

Davidm3286 says:

Ed thanks for the great video! I followed your last one about a year ago,
and maybe got 15k miles on a FAG bearing. I think the issue was not
supporting the inner race when installing the hub. The Harbor Frt kit did a
good job of that when using the revised part#. I’m hoping it will fit the
RTAB bushing too! Last time reinstalling the parking brake was the longest
part of the job. This time I installed the parking brake assembly before
pressing the Hub in. Much easier doing it that way.
