hii i hawe bmw 316i 2003 and is come smoke from engine cover i need to
change the valve cover gasket??
The video was very good up to the point where you was replacing the valve
cover you didn’t give how tight to torque it. That is a very important
part of changing the gasket so you won’t over tighten it.
lol this takes about 3 mins on a honda
how much are u suppose to tighten the spark plugs and the valve cover?

Raj, just wondering what’s the make of that drill you’re using. It looks
pretty compact. Great video but way too much shop noise. I’ve done this job
once and failed to remove the cabin filter housing which means I couldn’t
get to the back of the motor well enough to seal it properly with RTV. I’ll
do this next time and do it right. Also be sure to thoroughly clean the
gasket mating areas. I used Wurth brake cleaner since it cleans well and
leaves no residue. Fantastic stuff. Again, thanks for the viddy.

I have to change my and i was afraid to do it but after seeing this video i
could do it my self and not paid 100s dollars Thank you guys.
Just completed this job on my 2004 BMW Z4. I don’t think it’s necessary (at
least on the Z4) to tack the cylinder head gaskets directly to the head.
The cover has grooves that held both the cylinder and outer gaskets in
place just fine. Due to concerns about cracking the plastic cover (as I
presume it too gets brittle from engine heat over the years) I was very
slow to tighten down all the fasteners. I did a complete round about 5
times, adding a bit more torque to each before doing the final torque …
no cracks – whew!

Also what are the torque specs?

prying needed? I hear some crackiling noise while i try to pry, can you

gaskets?
Good video. I have similar question to Jetubeb below. I have symptoms which
make me think my valvecover gasket needs replacing – 1) I’m starting to
smell burning oil inside the cabin, most strongly when sitting still and
especially if my car’s still but on an incline (my driveway is uphill and I
smell it then every time)….. 2) My engine’s running lean (won’t a leaking
valvecover cause a vacuum leak?), 3) losing oil at very slow rate. Figure
it’s a cheap thing to try, what do u think?

U guys help with this one. I just did my 745 it was a little tight n areas
so it took patience but saved 1000 . lol
May I add more bonus of my valve cover casting having cracks? Earth is
hell. Sell out to the lowest bidder.
