Not a head gasket, you took like an hour to do a 20 minute job.

Candace Blakemore says:

I have a 97 528i with a blown head gasket. The guy that is going to work on
it is telling me that I need to buy the whole set, plus oil filter, and
spark plugs, etc…. I’m not sure if all of that is needed. If all of that
is not messed up then it doesn’t need to replaced right?

Omar Waney says:

That crazy Where u went to learn how to work on cars lol damn n how Long u
would take to change a oil on bmw 45m lol

Saviouremmamuel Udobong says:

GASKET…..LMAO…soo many people u got taking their top ends off thinking

@Fred H no need to

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@Killian665 will then you can Learn some Tricks and tips

fenceposter says:

Pretty good video. You do need someone to hold the camera though. One thing
you should mention is that the bolts holding the valve cover down need to
be torqued properly. I believe the torque value is 10 Nm or 89 in-lb.

Daveacemuhfucka says:

Your fricking awesome bro! Thanks

Killian665 says:

This does not apply to a 540i. They’re a lot more involved.

supersaltwaterfish says:

.

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@Stephen Ripple Sorry for the late reply. I believe anywhere you buy your
gasket it would be the same manufacture

knyka91 says:

I’m pretty sure that’s the valve cover gasket

sk111768 says:

do you have video for alternator replacement ’01 530i (e39)? Thanks…for
advance

david blanco says:

Thanks for the help. It made a huge difference, it runs so much better now.
It even sounds better. I would highly recommend doing this to your car if
you haven’t already. Again, thanks Joe, I couldn’t of done it without your
help.

fenceposter says:

Not criticizing, but you should have changed the spark plugs since you were
already in there.

Houssin Bentatou says:

Good job, I just want to add if you can, do not rely on your feel and use a
torque rench otherwise if you overtighten or undertighten you might have
leaks. Thanks for taking the time

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@fenceposter Thanks For your input.I forgot about that. My videos never go
as planned.

Fred H says:

Nice video.hey one question, do I have tio dragon the oil before I remove
the head? Thanks.

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

YES

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@Jorge Ilarraza If there’s water leaking into your oil. You have a blown
head gasket Not a valve cover cover gasket

Rico Vongphakdy says:

This is supposed to cost more than 1000$ at a repair shop? i can do this
myself with friends thanks to this video.

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@sidiqAA NO This video is for valve cover gasket. The top gasket. You need
to replace the bottom head gasket.

Gunn Maro says:

this is the valve cover gasket replace not head gasket

Jorge Ilarraza says:

Thank you for the video. I need to do some work on my 1998 528i. I got this
car in November and am running into problems as time goes on. I did oil and
coolant change but I suspect there is coolant leak into the the oil. I am
getting ready to do this on my own. I paid $350.00 for the oil, coolant,
and air filters change and am not willing to pay for something I can do.
Keep up, your videos are very instructional.

locetone74 says:

You pointed out two locations to put the silicon. Is there any other place
it goes before I put the cover back on?

Stephen Ripple says:

about to do this on my 02 530i. Ill let you know how it goes. Where should
I purchase the gaskets from? Any particular name on the gaskets that would
show they last longer?

BMW E39 528I Beamer Fanatics says:

@BlackJuiceKid yes
