How to put the windscreen wipers of your BMW in fold-out position – BMW How-To

Learn in this video, how in the fold-out position, the wind screen wipers of your BMW can be folded away from the windscreen. To do so, switch the ignition on and back off again. Then press and hold the lever upwards beyond the resistance point, until the wipers stop in an approximately vertical position. The wipers can now be lifted away from the windscreen, for example to replace the wiper blades.

Andi Campbell says:

Or in the case of my 2017 730D I have to move the wiper stalk downwards.

WarLes says:

This doesn’t work on a 2019 X1. Resistance is down, and this doesn’t do anything to position the front wipers in service mode.

Robert Saca says:

Doesn't work on many BMW's.

Leon575 says:

I needed this info for my new BMW lol. So it's actually upwards as opposed to downwards on my old VW Golf.
EDIT: It's actually downwards on the 5 series.

Regular Car Guy says:

So ridiculous that this step is necessary!

Theo Fennel says:

Ahhh see I couldn't do this the other day, just tried and worked first time.

Jean-Raoul Ducable says:

Hello, on my 530d G31 it does not work like this. You have to move the actuator downward until it stops at the proper position. Regards. Laurent.

Robert Alexander says:

I would suggest doing this on a wet glass so as not to scratch your window.

Robert Alexander says:

With the good addition from @Greg Bouwens under this is a great instruction. Now I need to understand how to do something similar for the rear wiper in my 2018 G31 (530 dX) since it does not seem to be liftable. How in heaven do you move it to clean the rear window properly and how do you change THAT wiper blade? Thanks.

M Pham says:

For 2019 X3 30i, push down and hold for 3 cycles

Noi Galâ says:

For x3 2021 model,
Turn the ingination on then turn back off. Push the wiper lever fully down and wait for the wiper to perform a complete 3-cycles and it'll stop in vertical position on the 4th cycle.
To put the wiper back just turn back on the engine and push the wiper lever once downward.

LLCwr41th says:

Goddamned, how many times I struggled washing these things wothout knowing this. Thx for the video!

Lizzylemonade says:

I have a 2018 330e:
No brake, ignition button on
1-1000
Ignition button off
Push wiper stick down and hold

Note: I had bailed out on this before because wipers didnt move. Be patient, there’s a 1-2 second delay before they move. Then they’ll do a cycle and stop in vertical…

BK says:

Nice to know. Thought my used BMW wiper arm was swapped out.

Enzo says:

Is this for any bmw even a bmw 320i 2018?

La Keisha Hicks says:

Well I scratched my hood a little already … thanks for making this video

MrSlanderer says:

Ayyy yay yay… I did exactly as this video says, and still NOTHING. I would ask for help, but this doing that here is like talking to a toaster oven: No answer will come.

W Tam says:

For 2019 X7, 1) press ignition Start then turn it Off. 2) press and hold the right lever DOWN for a few seconds. The wipers stop at almost vertical position.

K. says:

Germans you drunk or want me to break the control stick? I have g31 and for me worked pushing ignition once (foot off from pedal) so it does not start engine and hold DOWN for few seconds untill it stops…
