In this video, I replace the battery in my BMW F30 340i. It was surprisingly difficult to find the correct battery for my car. The original part number had been discontinued, there was little to nothing in stores or online with matching specs, and information on the forums was contradictory or incorrect.

Luckily my local dealership had the battery in stock and it wasn’t much more expensive than the batteries at the auto part stores. I wish I had just gone to the dealership first and saved myself the time and frustration. Keep in mind there is still a HUGE savings if you install and code it yourself rather than having the dealership install it. You will pay almost double if they install it for you.

If you’re physically able to replace your battery at home (I’m not kidding, this sucker is HEAVY), you’ll need to register the battery to let the car know that it has been replaced. I used Carly, but BimmerLink will work too. If you use BimmerLink and need to change the amp hours, you will need BimmerCode as well. With Carly you can do both in one app.

ONE LAST THING: there is a small white plastic plug on the opposite side from the vent tube. You’ll need to transfer that from your old battery to you new one

dorin pop says:

How old was the battery?

I recently bought a new battery for my bmw f30 335i, the car started on the old battery but it was very low, I put the new battery in and the car won’t start it cranks but no start. If anyone know what the issue can be please help 🙂

Costco has A high end interstate battery for the 340/440 for under $200 Group Size: H8 (49) AGM

Marco not on facebook says:

What kind of advice is this? Of course there are non BMW battery's available. BMW does not manufacture these things themselves. That you are unable to find one doesn't say a lot. And slight variations are possible.

Justin did his homework. BMW batteries get replaced regularly by new PNs with different specs. These Battery PNs are good for E9X and F3X BMWs. If you are in Los Angeles BMW Parts Pros has a much better price on BMW Batteries. Keep in mind that you can't ship Lead Acid and AGM batteries. Get AGM Batteries in a black case (Lead Acid use a white case).
To check the BMW Battery PN Fitment use a Canadian BMW Parts site to show 812 is superseded by E29. HaHa

EP AGM Battery 92AH/850 CCA 61212353812 (Old Battery PN – might still be available)
EP AGM Battery 92AH/850 CCA 61215A40E29 (Newest PN)

The key is that the BMW DME SW only has a few AHr options to select that might not match the BMW or Aftermarket Battery you are installing. So selecting 90AHr is close enough to 92AHr. The DME just stores the mileage when you installed your new battery to change the charging profile for a new battery. Older DME SW doesn't have all future BMW Battery AHr size options.

Ayixlia Merrets says:

Hey, that's the same battery that the E90 and E46 shares.

Ciumpalacul says:

I definitely need to change my E90 with an F30 so i can watch your video with more interest like the days you had e90. Hello from Romania ✌️

Alan Sack says:

Great video. Very informative and very well done.

Mickey Glover says:

I got a diehard platinum, which has 90mah.

M3 BEATS says:

Nice video Justin! Glad you were able to get it sorted out. It took me a while to figure out my battery was the issue but once I replaced it the starts and everything back strong. Good job!!!
