My ’09 335i w/N54 throws a P0015 code intermittently. I investigated and
this camshaft position issue is potentially related to the Vanos? Is this
correct?

Anthony Marengo says:

Guys, I have a 2007 750Li. Experiencing rough idle on cold start. After
running a while it goes away. Where is/are the solenoid/s located on the
4.8L ? engine?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Some strange problems 🙂 The idle could be from many things unfortunately.
Do you have a check engine light on? The dome lights might be coming on as
the vehicle thinks there is a door open. The smoke is usually an oil leak
that is dripping on the exhaust. Not sure for the mirror that is a strange
one. Would need hands on to figure that one out 🙂

Snyperx77 says:

Well bad news. I checked for codes after a 320 mile trip and am now getting
the 2a99 and 2a98 shadow codes. I am now freaking out about the solenoids
being bad as well as a bearing ledge issue. Can you advise??

Snyperx77 says:

I ultimately ended up pulling the solenoids, cleaning, and swapping
locations (intake to exhaust and exhaust to intake). I have done numerous
fault scans with no new 2a99 codes to this point.

Raz Mohamad says:

Hi, I have a 2009 BMW 535i and was recently in an accident. I took it to
the dealer and the fault code they gave me was 2A9F. My service adviser
told me its either the timing is off or its regarding the Vanos unit. I
also had a crack in the Valve cover. That has been removed and installed a
new Valve cover. Do you think its the Timing or the Vanos Unit? I need help
because this will cost me a fortune if i go with the dealer and dealers
intend to rip you off. Thanks

Nick Elkins says:

thank you. lol on the “Hel”. My next question is that how many vanos
solenoids are in a e39 engine. 2002 bmw 540I v8. I have been looking all
over the internet for info on this and i cant seem to find it. if you could
direct me to a website that i might be able to find it it would be great.
then i could do the foot work without the frustration of not finding
anything. thanks again

Oh my God…I just got mine replaced and when I picked up the car…WOW!!!
it was such a difference…like night and day. And was more responsive than
even when I bought the car. Torque was noticeably increased. You are spot
on in this video when talking about all these benefits of a working vanos.

jerico espinosa says:

I have change my solenoid both of them but the vehicle still rough during
the first gear and when vehicle is in idle much worst when I first start it
and give her a couple rpms its like the engine is making a scratching
sound. pls help

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Michael, The solenoid is very common to cause idle problems. Also
there is a reprogramming for a rough idle when going from park to drive or
reverse to drive that may help. Dealer only for the programming update.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hi Fred, Started right up with no issues. I should have thought to add
that. Already returned to my friend that own the vehicle 🙂 No problems so
far 😉

Nick Elkins says:

are the solenoids one in the same concerning part numbers?

michael raymond says:

Hi, I have a 328xi 2007 n52 and I got 2 code last weekend. First one is
related to the intake vanos solenoid, I don’t remember the second one but
it’s about the intake the guys told me to replace one of my solenoid but i
don’t think it’s the probleme. The car work fine for the 15 first minutes
and when the engine is hot the idle start going up when i stop. Thanxs for
the help

Snyperx77 says:

I just found a 2a99 code being stored on my 2006 325i. No other codes, no
CEL lights, and not limp mode. I plan on cleaning the solenoids, but wanted
to know if their is anything else I should be concerned with? Thanks.

AskTheCarExperts says:

I would start with the solenoid and then recheck. But the misfires may be
from bad coils (swap them) bad plugs (again swap them) bad injectors (you
cannot swap them unless you can change the calibration using a scan tool)
or it could be carbon build up.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Thank you Stephen for the great comment. Hopefully my videos will help you
in the future 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Helloo Jerico, Are you getting any check engine light and can you post the
last seven digits of the VIN number?

Jesse McClintock says:

Awesome video with the perfect amount of detail! Against my better
judgement, after reading all the downsides of the x83, I just bought an 07
3.0si and was wondering if you have any suggestions for code readers for
this vehicle? Thanks for the great videos and any suggestions!

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Mark, In some cases cleaning the solenoids can fix the problem. And
swapping is a good rule of thumb to see if the fault migrates. Thanks for
the comment.

Mobi Bazzi says:

Great videos as always. Hopefully you can help me with my problem. 2007
328i. No Service lights on. Problem is a 2-3 second long crank only when
the engine is warm. Starts right up in the morning and starts right up
within 10 minutes of shutting the engine down. Replaced spark plugs and
coils. Performed a fuel injecting clean and an upper induction cleaning.
Replaced air filter and cleaned MAF sensor. Could it be one of the
crankshaft position sensors? Thanks!

Mobi Bazzi says:

Hi I have a 2007 328i. The crank has been longer then usual on a warm
start. about 3 seconds. Crank is normal in the morning and when starting
the car within 10 minutes of shutting down the engine. replaced spark
plugs/coils, air filter/cleaned MAF sensor, performed a fuel injection
service. any help would be greatly appreciated!

AskTheCarExperts says:

That is great! Thanks for watching and the great comment!

alfflash says:

Hello thank you for the info… I have done the vanos replacement to fix
rough idle, but i still have a very severe fuel consumption problem, not
even 18mpg…. The car is a 2009 128i with 35k…. It has the n52 3.0
should i change the maf ? Already tried cleanning it with no results, or
should i clean the EGR valve ? My car has an EGR ? Please help me.. God
bless

jerico espinosa says:

Codes P0597 and P0012

AskTheCarExperts says:

Glad to help 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Mark, I would just start with the solenoid replacement. I do not do
the cleaning anymore as it does not always fix this issue. I would only
worry if you have the worn ledge issue as the most common failure is still
the solenoids. Replace the solenoids and change the oil and filter and in
most cases you should be good to go!

Dave Sheeran says:

Hi, my e90 325i has the engine management light coming on (yellow) but only
on long journeys (moderate engine speeds) and it disappears by the
following day. No other symptoms, very slight irregular idle when cold
(manual box) but fine once its warm. Does that sound like the problem?

jukka pekkanen says:

Hi. Thank you for these great videos! I have e60 530i 2006 and i have
little problem with it. When its running idle and i am going to leave fast
and push throttle full fast, there is lag maybe 2 seconds before its going
to take more rpm. Its feeling its going to shut off, but then runs
normally. If i push throttle slowly it runs normally. Could it be vanos
problem? There is no fault codes. Greetings from Finland.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Thanks for watching and the great comment Phil!

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Greg, It may be the vanos unit but most of the time if the fault sets
again it is from a failing bearing ledge on the camshaft carrier. The
camshafts need to be removed and the #1 bearing cap checked where the hook
ring seal rides. If there is a worn spot then the bearing ledge needs
replacement. Also make sure the oil filter cap has the insert. If this is
missing you can get the same faults.

fredjohs says:

Nice demo, thanks for providing. Can we get a followup with the engine’s
1st startup after the install?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Jesse, It depends a lot on what you are willing to spend. The best is
to buy a GT1 or GT1 sofware with laptop but the high end snap on scan tools
are pretty good as well. For just check engine light emmissions any code
reader will do. With the high end scanners you can to airbag and see body
control module faults and can do activations and test plans. All depends on
how much you want to spend 🙂

jerico espinosa says:

Codes are P0597 and P0012 thats the codes that shows up. What made me think
that it could be somewhere in the fuel line was because the previous owner
was putting regular gas rather than putting premium gas.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, You have the N52 engine. What code are you getting? The fuel pump
and injectors are not common failures for this model.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Cooljde, Thank you. I worked in a shop once a long time ago that no
one shared information. Not a good way to fix cars or do business. I am a
big believer in sharing information and you tube is a great medium for this
as well as hearing from all over the world. Thank you for the great comment!

I have bmw 335i 2007 when i press almost full throttle and especially at
high rpm the car shakes then engine fault appears,i checked it with the
computer it says vanos jammed the one at passengers side and cylinder 3 and
5 misfire so shell i change the selenoid for the intake wil resolve this
problem?thanks in advance and is the misfire in the two cylinders can be
caused by vanos issues?
