How do you tighten the belt back?

bimmersgarage says:

You’re welcome.

Sam Eb says:

Very helpful, thanks much

rednightist says:

For those who have the hydraulic type tensioner, you will need either a torx bit (t50 I think) or in my case a hex bit, to release the tension. So if you don’t see a hex fitting that you see in this documentary, don’t fret. You probably need the torx bit type or hex bit type to release the tension. Also, you cannot remove the serpentine belt without removing the accessory belt (smaller belt) first. LimayBataanBoy

yeah way to ad 30 extra seconds!

jonnygotz2343 says:

is it the same with an e32?

paarsenov says:

HELP. I followed your video today bc i had to replace the tensioner and idle pulley on my 2002 325i. All was going well until i got to the point where i had to release the pressure from the tensioner pulley. Well, mine was different. After a few trips to Advance Auto Parts i figured out that the tensioner and the pulley on my 325i was actually from an M3 model. WTF? The guy at the store eyed me when we figured out that the old one i brought with me was the same as an M3 one. Any idea? THANKS!

sunnyjason says:

I like you way. many people suggest removing the cap

speedjason86 says:

that seems pretty easy.

I got scared turned off THE ENGINE quickly when i restarted it light went off i took it to another tranny specialist he test drove it and said nothing is wrong but bring it back when light comes on since then it comes on once in a month while parking or stoping at the red light..but it goes away after turning off…if you have any idea what could it be …I would really appreciate that… Thank you so much in advance…GOD BLESS!!!

skilledindian says:

Hi! I have a 330i 2001 which has 140k miles on it everything is great axcept that 6 months ago transmission light was on permanently so i took it to one guy he said tranny needs to be rebuilt…when he opened everything he said it can’t be rebuilt I don’t know wether he was capable of doing that or not so he suggested that buy the transmission form a junk yark so we got one and had it installed…then it drove fine for couple of months. one night transnmission light came on again while parking

There’s Always more than one way to do something.
Not all maintenance routines are about the speed of completing the task.
Thanks for commenting though.

Wow you made it way harder than it needed to be. Great video but you waste alot of time. Just use a 16mm socket with long handled 3/8 ratchet for leverage on the bolt, release tension and remove the belt, then just let the tensionsioner spring back (it won’t hurt anything). Don’t use the screw driver b/c it will only get in the way. Replace whatever and reinstall in the reverse order. Piece of cake. I can change belts on a e46 in about 10 min flat.

thanks a lot bro

bimmersgarage says:

No problem.. in that case you have the Hydraulic tensioner. It’s a little more difficult to release than the one I’ve shown in my vid. Anyways, I’ll send you the link to the BMW instructions for that one. I’ll PM you the URL since it’s a long one. So, check your YT inbox in a few minutes.

42OKing69 says:

hey i need some more help i got everything else the way you side it but my tensioner looks different and i cant find a way to losen the belt. any ide on what i can do?

bimmersgarage says:

Certainly.. Glad it helped. Just remember to check your pulleys (tensioners & deflector/idler) while you have the serpentine belt off. Make sure they are still good/lubricated. While you’re at it replace the A/C belt too. Great to hear that you saved $250. When you can > DIY.

42OKing69 says:

thanks your video is very helpful

The E46 looks much more robust than the E36 IMHO. I would put in the Signature Motoring performance intake kit for only around $150 and gain up to 13HP on the stock output for the 330i and a bit less for the 325 and 328. I highly recommend this item, see my youtube channel for the action video on it.

-Installs in round 45min.
-Guaranteed HP increase
-Induction sound to die for
-Awesome fit/finish.

See my video of how it sounds AND performs!

the last time i tried to change the main belt, i had to first take the AC belt off. how do i do that??? i tried and failed haha.

BlackGermanJew says:

thank you so much! best video explaining how to do this out there!

dOlCeCaRaMeLo says:

hahahahaha i know lol
thanks man again 🙂

bimmersgarage says:

I think you are getting the Serpentine belt confused with the timing chain. So, no you don’t calibrate the belt.

dOlCeCaRaMeLo says:

hey man to align the serpentine belt do you need
to calibrate with the special gun ? ( if you know what i mean ?)

bimmersgarage says:

Thanks man.. glad you like them. I’m compositing all the vids with fcp on a Mac .

bimmersgarage says:

Thanks for watching!
