This video shows you how to disassemble and diagnose the motors of the actuator inside your BMW E46 side mirrors. Mine was not working so I took it apart to see what was inside it and troubleshoot.

Thank you for posting this video. I just fixed mine and it worked perfectly. Thanks again.
You never tell us how to get the motor out
I was looking for M3 mirror stuff but I own a 328ci too so seeing the internals was interesting! Thankyou for uploading!
It looks like you went through a lot of frustration. I just realized that my mirror stopped working when my body shop messed up the door handle connection. I suspect it may not have been plugged in after they 'did their thing.' Hang in there….working on BMW's takes exceeding amount of patience. I spent more than two hours trying to put an injector clip between the injector and the fuel rail. I learned that you cannot do it…must pull off the fuel rail to get the clip to snap in with the injector. Voila!
n either of mine are working checked fuses and switch is it worth looking at the wires i undestand it might be a wiring ribbon on later cars thanks
Useful. Thanks
Hi. Is anyone know is this electric motor is exactly the same for driver and passenger side. Just ask cos here in Europe passenger use full mirror are 3 times cheaper then driver and I just need only electronic motor to change. Thanks for any advice.
Thank you for the video
hi, i have a question. The lil white sticks that look like lil bones can be removed? thats the part that goes up and down with the lil gear
I'm so glad I came across your video! Recently bought a e46 convertible for the summer and the passenger mirror was not working at all… Before anything I wanted to test the motor, but I didn't even need to go that far. Removed the door panel and inspected the connector, and bingo found the issue @20:28, the connector was not plugged in all the way.
Please Note: Make sure to open the grey tab and not close it before pushing it in, there is teeth on that clip and the clip in the inside. Pushing the connector keeping the grey tab open will close it itself.
Thank you!
Thanks for this. It helped me not have to do this.
Did you give the car away yet?
thanks my driver's side is also not working after i took off the forecasts for tint
