BMW 3 Series says:

Yes it should be the same on a E36

Pal v says:

Great video! Is it the same procedure on the e36 bmw?

VirtualSuperSoldier says:

Great vid! I am about to replace these darn springs on my 02 325i for the
third time in 6 years!! I’m getting sick of paying for it, so this will
come in handy. Do you have any idea why these seem to break so often? Does
anyone make a longer lasting spring than OEM? THANKS for the advice!

BMW 3 Series says:

It’s a weak design on the E46. They break because the rod from which the
spring is manufactured is bended ‘too much’ at the ends. You can see in the
diameters at both ends on the springs they are small and the rod is bended
very much. Don’t think other manufactures can do them better. Making a
spring is the same procedure ….heating up the rod and twist it around a
dice. But it’s really easy to replace the rear springs ๐Ÿ™‚ I would only buy
OEM springs because others might give a wrong height

BMW 3 Series says:

I used OEM BMW part

David Berzins says:

The covers can be removed by popping or screwing out the buttons then undo
the top mounts

aturkinside says:

nice music…sounds like you’re going into battle with the coil spring haha

Luis Alvarez says:

i thought something epic was about to happen with that music lol

h3artthrob666 says:

Great video! I’m doing this along with break overhaul.

projectsct says:

but you should have tuned the music down, at some times its pretty hard to
hear what youre saying

Dufrais Constantinople says:

good tutorial bro

Aaroenz0r says:

HOLY SHIT. That thing with the oem jack was EPIC. thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

John jacobs says:

Thank you very much for this!! i have a question. I have new bilstein
shocks with HR race springs. Can i go ahead and do everything in this
order, and then instead of reattaching the old shock, replace it with the
new one at that time? i plan on doing this within a week so your reply is
GREATLY appreciated!! thanks again!!!!

BMW 3 Series says:

Hi yes sure. After unbolting the lower shock mount, just unbolt the upper
mount too. But you have to cut in the foam cover to get into the upper
mount.

Lars Byberg says:

Iยดve just changed my rear springs on a 325xi. One of the sway bar links
broke. Not sure if this happened before the operation or if they were ready
to go. Just saying, use cation. Maybe a spring compressor would help?

jhutton22 says:

This is so informative and helpful. What brand of coil spring do you use?

SmieshNorway says:

Thank you for the help

Ash er says:

Great! instead of using the OEM jack you can simply release the parking
brake and push the rotor downwards and BAM! coil spring will come out!

spudth says:

After doing my car using this video I am happy for the clue to use the cars
jack. First as a safety observation you should have a stand in case the
first jack fails. Second you need to be careful when inserting the spring
should the separator jack slip. On the driver side you need to be careful
to only separate until the spring perch contacts the driveshaft. On the
opposide side with the longer axle be careful to not damage the brake hose
when using the OEM jack.

BMW 3 Series says:

It’s not that simple ๐Ÿ™‚ You need a bit more force to press the rotor
downwards. On E46fanatics you can see it’s a two man job to press the rotor
down and remove the spring. But using the jack you can do it yourself

onDishez says:

Thanks. Why did that bird yell like that

Mahmud Elbackush says:

Great video, very helpful, saved me from going to the stealership.

projectsct says:

great video!

szawii says:

Thanks for video. Nice trick with OEM jack. I will try to change broken
springs this way.

Erik Matosian says:

awsome video! Can the same process be used for the front end?

firebirdjimbo says:

Very good use of the oem jack! Thanks for the video, good job.

dragythuno says:

That dramatic spring-release music has to be the most ridiculous part of
any Youtube video I’ve ever seen ever.. still nice video.

stlee74 says:

CMD PC says:

My daily driver is E46 328i and E30 325 weekends. 328i is more responsive
with Signature Motoring performance (CAI) intake kit. Installed it myself
in under half hour. HP increase on the E46 is about 13.5HP for a cost of
$170 or around $17 per HP gain. Best 1st performance mod to do. Other
application data: E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain E46
series: 6.0-13.9hp gain E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp
gain See my channel for driving action videos!
