Thanks for the DIY guide. One important note: Be sure the notches of your
new ignition switch are aligned exactly the same as the switch you’re
replacing, otherwise you won’t be able to turn the key in the ignition when
you reassemble everything.

I think my ignition switch needs changing but all lights, radio, and horn
work but when the ignition is turned on I get nothing but the a sound under
the rear seat and a hum from under the hood. Do you think this is related
to the ignition switch?

Bmwfix1 says:

well the sound that is coming from under the seat, is the fuel pump. But I
‘am not sure about the “humming” sound that is coming from under the hood.
It can be related to the ignition switch, but I ‘am not sure. Need more
information.

sharms bee says:

how did you get the covers off?

Great video!

floyd mcdaniel says:

Thank you for the response. I have since replaced the battery, ignition
switch and tried a different key without any success. I am now thinking it
is the starter. I do not have any fault codes but I will get a reader to
see what I get. I think the humming sound is the A/C unit

Bmwfix1 says:

you´re welcome

Bmwfix1 says:

you have to press in the sides of the lower half of the clamshell to
release it from the upper half.
