BMW Brake Vacumm Pump Seal Leak Replacement Part 1

BMW e60 series vacuum pumps and brake fluid pressure sensors are notorious for leaking. If you haven’t experienced one or both of these leaks, rest assure—yo…

BullseyeDIY says:

The skinning line is a vacumm link I believe. Like all other BMW hoses this
line is brittle and can possible break loose. Look carefully to see if it
is hanging loose. If your care has not had the brake line recall performed,
be sure that they replace any damaged lines leading to this pump when they
perform this recall…

Rueben Botello says:

Also, I don’t have that line that connects to that nipple…would the oil
be coming out of there?

Rueben Botello says:

What tools are needed?

BullseyeDIY says:

Is the nipple open. If so it will leak under pressure when the engine is
running. That line that connects to the front of the pump on the N62 engine
is very brittle. Mine broke off at one point and I just cut of the tip and
plugged it back in. I will probably have to replace the line at some point.
I’m working on the crank case vent hose video which I will post soon. They
are even more brittle and is actually what causes the engine leaks due to
cold temperature freezing the lines.

BullseyeDIY says:

Which model vehicle do you have? Is it an 8 cylinder or a 6? The vacuum
pump has two lines feeding in to it. One is on top, and the other is a
smaller line, quite brittle that feeds in to a nipple on the front cover.
Unless the engine is running there should be little to no oil running
through these lines because there is no pressure. If you find the nipple
fitting on the front left side cover of the pump, with no tube running to
it, it could have become disconnected which is not uncommon.

BullseyeDIY says:

You will need a socket set with short extension, a star bit socket, and
some form-a-gasket. I think I mention the proper sizes in the video. You
will not loose any oil in this process, very little if any when you remove
the pump, but not when you remove the hoses.

Rueben Botello says:

Where does that skinny line go? You know, the one that connects to the
nipple of the pump…I don’t see one on my car
