Save loads of money over dealer prices, replace your own BMW E92 front
brakes and keep your car as safe as possible with this simple BMW DIY
video: http://ow.ly/spSX8
NEW VIDEO:
what size mm heads will i need to take apart all of this?
Hey, thanx for the quick reply! I will give it a try! I’m only not sure
whether or not it is even possible with the M-DKG to put it in neutral
without keeping the engine running. I think as soon as I turn off the car
the parking break locks…
Thanks to Alex and the rest of FCP Groton for the shout out regarding our
brake wear sensors.
You’ll want to change the rotor if you notice cracks, grooves or a lip on
the edge. Those are all indications that the rotor has used up its wearable
surface. Hope that helps!
If the light hasn’t already turned on, and if you can manage to get it off
the old pad with out breaking the sensor clip, you may be able to reuse it,
but I certainly can’t recommend it.
is there a reason why you have to change the rotor as well?
Usually I’ll pay more attention to the reservoir if I’m doing a full set of
brakes, as I’ll pe pushing in more pistons and putting more pressure on the
system. You are right though, it’s never a bad idea to crack the reservoir
cap to relieve the pressure even on smaller jobs.
do you HAVE to replace the brake light sensor when you change the pads? I
have an e36 and I’m on a serious budget but my front brakes have about 1
month left on them.
Hi, Good video, I like seeing another guy who doesn’t wear latex gloves for
car work. I also just put up an e92 front brake video. If you want to check
it out search youtube for froggy bmw front pads and it should pop up. FWIW
(and this is NOT a criticism of your video, I swear) there is no way that
sensor wear set off that driver information warning. Those pads had lots of
material left. Something else shorted out the sensor. Ck my video for a
look at a sensor that is truely worn down. Cheers
First of all, thanks for the nice vid! Have two questions though, for the
M3 do you have to pay special attention to something, for the brakes are
different there? And second, when you have an automatic gear, how do you
loosen your rear brakes? I just was wondering because mine always locks
brakes when I turn the car off! thanks already in advance and keep going!:)
After installing the new brake sensor should the car automatically reset?
Hey there, I read other DIY brake replacement and they say that you should
open the brake fluid reservoir to reduce pressure. Is that necessary?
It should, but occasionally it won’t, if it doesn’t you’ll have to put the
key in, press start without brake to enable accessory mode, wait until the
service reminders go away to the normal screen, hold the odometer reset
button until a yellow triangle pops up, scroll to the brake sensor service
reminder, press BC until reset option comes up, hold BC to reset, and
you’re all set, hope that helps.
The front brakes can be removed with the same process, but the brakes are
larger so it would be a different part then what you see us using. As for
the rear if you keep the car in neutral you shouldn’t have any trouble
getting the brakes off. Please be very careful lifting the car while it is
in neutral though.
Ok so you know how the bmw e90 has SUPER RESPONSIVE BRAKES right? well a
few months a go I was messing around and reseted the brake service light
without changing my brake pads rotors or sensors, worst thing i could have
done because ever since my brakes are not nearly as responsive as they used
to, Id figure next time i changed my rotors, pad and sensors the SENSITIVE
BRAKING FEATURE would come back, WRONG I’ve changed my rotors pads and
sensors and my brakes are still not as responsive HELP!!
do have to replace rotors or it’s not necessary? my sensor shows me my
front brakes are negative 50.
TheCarLife FTW!!
There are a lot of determining factors when it comes to braking
performance. If you installed new rotors and pads you will need to bed them
in. You can do this easily by going to an empty parking lot and performing
5 stops from 35 MPH. Then repeat from 45MPH. After that let the brakes cool
down and you should be set. This procedure cures the brake pads and
tranfers brake pad material onto the rotor surface. This could help with
the braking performance you are missing.
