thank you so much for your reply!
You are the man! Worked great!
The one tool you need the most is called a 120 degree hook. it is similar
to a cork screw but it is small, and you use it to hook under the old one
to get it out. The right tool for the job. once you get it spun under the
old one and start it; it will come right out. I wrapped blue tape on mine
so it cant mar the paint.
I really appreciate you for posting this video!
You can pick them up at the dealership or order them online. The front
upper windshield molding is part number 51317061967 and the back upper is
51317061970.
How did you snap it in so easily? i have been having the hardest time. It
just wont snap down!! Your video is the best though in helping us get
through it. NIce!! Thank you!!
Thanks Christopher. Before I decided to make this video I looked all over
for a video, couldn’t find anything, so I figured if I made this video it
would help somebody out there, I am glad to know it’s helped you.
Do you think it’s the same for the back windshild ?
Can’t find this part online …anyone have a link ?
I am not sure Pompaypee, I’ve only done this on an E90, but I have a
feeling it’s a very similar process. It’s probably not the same part number
for the trim part. Try BMW forums.
Thanks for posting this. Saved me some bucks!
Just installed my new trim …thanks for helping me re-pimp my ride 😉
Awesome!! Thanks!!
Awesome video. Thanks so much. Took me about 35 minutes from start to
finish. Used a little WD-40 on a rag to remove the adhesive left on the
windshield/roof then washed that off with a little soapy water. The place
that works on my car said they would have to remove the windshield and it
would probably crack in the process. Much easier (and way less expensive)
this way I think.
You have to slide it in from one both ends, then the rest snaps in.
WD-40 why didn’t I think of that. Cool tip.
Works well for 2006 325i, too!
I have a 528i but I think this will work just fine. Thanks!
Great!!!!!!
Thank you SO much. I started doing this and was about to struggle to remove
the metal piece and your advice was perfect!! Thanks again.
I take it you don’t need that aluminum piece
Nick here from down under, I will try to replace my windshield sometime
today wish me luck. I got a bmw 3.20i E90….
Got one !
One additional tool I’d add to this is go to your local bike shop and buy a
set of plastic tire wrenches. They wont scratch your paint. They let you to
brake the old adhesive strip without tearing the old part into pieces
allowing pulling it whole, much faster, start at the end and work towards
the center. once you have that done take the small screwdriver and pry up
the center, then follow the rest of the directions. I changed my out in 15
min. Oh and 409 for the cleaning (faster) 06 330i
Thank you very much for posting this video. I just bought a used 2006 BMW
330i last week and the upper windshield molding was rotting away. I just
picked up a replacement part from the BMW dealership today after work and
wasn’t very confident that I could install it. That aluminum piece was
throwing me off. Then I watched your video and you showed me exactly what
to do. It only took me 20 minutes! Looks great! Thanks again!
Try going to a BMW dealership. It only cost me $28 for a genuine part. When
I searched online, the cheapest price I could find for the upper windshield
molding was $30 and it wasn’t a genuine BMW part.
mike your instructions was excellent and i did it like your way!i have the
same problem about the rear window (top) cover!do you think its the same
easy way to replace it like the front??
You are the man. mine looks just like that. I just painted the ski rack
moulding now I am going to order my windshield trim moulding and do this
myself. thanks!
Thanks so much for this! Great DIY. Just did mine today, took about 1-1.5
hours in total. Had a lot of trouble getting one of the sides to snap in
and in the end it doesn’t sit perfectly flush like the other side, but it’s
only off by a cm or so. Either way thanks again for this is was EXTREMELY
helpful and now the rubber trim looks 1000x better!
WHERE DID YOU ORDER THE PIECE FROM ??? YOUR RESPONSE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED
!!!!
would this work on an E39?
You are awesome. Thx for taking time to learn.
I got it from a local BMW dealer, I wanted an original part. I only needed
the part number.
