That is a misfire code. You should pull the spark plug and see what it looks like. You can go to a spark plug company website to compare your plug with plug examples on their site to see what is says about the condition. Make sure the gap is correct, then swap the coil packs to see if the misfire follows. If it does, you likely have a bad coil pack. If it stays there, you likely have a wiring problem or bad cylinder in the motor.

The next step would be a compression test.

this video was really helpful..i have 2004 audi a4 1.8t..check engine light on..it scan and code po303 it says 3 cylinder misfire..went to web got some tips..to says check my spark plug or it could be my coil pack..do u think that’s correct..don’t know anything about cars that much…thank you

Good. Must of these system do not toss codes for low or no fuel pressure. You have to test fuel pressure by connecting some kind of pressure gauge.

Thanks for the reply! my car has been cutting off lately again and I think it might be a relay failure as it starts straight after it cuts of and works again for a short time before it cuts off again.I will replace the relay anyway and if carries on the fuel pump.Would you recommend diagnostic check before I do that and would it show me the faults? Thanks a million! P.S I’ve had NO stalling now.

RSpi007 says:

That is a tough one. Random stalling with NO CODES or check engine light is usually the result of fuel pressure failure. Either pump going out or relay failing. Bad coils will usually toss a misfire code, bad MAF would cause a code, and cam sensor failure usually tosses a code. Fuel pressure failure will sometimes toss a multiple misfire code.

Hi, thanks for the video! now I know it wasn’t so difficult to change the spark plugs.
I have Audi 1.8t quatro B5 2001 model that looks exactly the same, but today when I drove in town the car cut off several times and stalled once or twice.Everything is running fine, when I do the engine check, no faults are detected, temperature is dead on 90 at all time.I read some forums with similar issues, some said coil caps, some fuel pump even MAS fault. If u can, please give me advice. Thanks!
