How to replace your brake pads Audi Q5 A4 A5 2008 – 2016

So I recorded the process on how to replace some brake pads on an Audi Q5 with the standard brake setup. This will be the same setup on an Audi A4 and A5 with the standard brakes. The process of changing brake pads on other vehicles is very similar and the general steps remain the same.

This is a fairy straight forward job and anyone with a decent set of tools and capability could perform this job.

Tools and equipment needed are:

Jack to raise the vehicle
17mm socket with a long bar to remove the wheel bolts
13mm socket and ratchet to remove the two caliper bolts
Large flat blade screwdriver or leaver bar to remove retaining spring
Hammer to help remove the pads from the caliper
Large plyers/grips to push the caliper piston back in
Wire brush or file to clean the pad carrier
Brake cleaner solution
Brake grease
Small screwdriver or pick to help release the pad wear sensor plug

As a disclaimer please don’t forget that the brakes are the most important part of any vehicle and failing to repair them to manufacture standards could cause harm or death to yourself or others. Work should only be carried out by trained professionals.

Excellent vid. Took one hour for both front brakes. The passenger side has no wire, so it goes much faster.

@3:27 I saw on another video if you pull on the rubber bolt covers, it allows you to pull the calipers off without loosening the pads from the rotor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1vohg3t_JQ

Do we have to leave the break fluid cap open?

Does the warning light/tell tale on the dash have to be reset after fitting of pads?

Do not include Q5, especially after 2013 model. It might not apply to other Audi, The author should have it examined if it apllies to other model. Mislaeding ingormation.

Chi Ngo says:

Audi does different things about the brake for every model. Q5 is different for A4. It is not the BMW does for brakes which is almost the same.

Chi Ngo says:

Hey! Audi changed the front brake design, this video is not suitable the Q5 after 2012.

DirtyChemist says:

This is not the same caliper as a 2015 Q5 has and this video won't work.

Michael S says:

you pushed the caliper piston straight in, on my prior A4 (prior model) the piston had to be screwed in. Did they change this for this model A4?
