Great Video! Just have a quick question. What happens if I incorrectly fitted the outlet and inlet pipes? How can I fix this problem? If anybody could help I would greatly appreciate it,

Gaetano Ragusa says:

Thanks Man!

knoppix20 says:

very good tutorial. on vw golf 4 this filter located on left side from engine.

ElectroRaveRangers says:

hey, i’m going to change the filter on my 1999 a4 with an AHU engine (i think it is, i can’t actually remember now…) got a new filter today, but the new one has a screw on fitting like an oil filter does, the old one in the car looks more like the one in your video, but not completely. did the 1999 filters have this type of fitting, or have i got the wrong part?

Jurica Grčević says:

Sorry, I forgot to mention it was a SDI machine.

Half an hour ago I have had problem changing fuel filter on Golf 4.
On Mahle filter (1j0 127 401a) the termostatic T part just couldn’t sit deep enogh and I pushed it with clamp so I could tight it a mickey mouse pin and it seemed allright. I was suspicious so I removed pin and T part and the inside plastic part with two O-rings and a little metal round part were left attached to the filter. Mahle is not a good part. Now it leaks fuel and must be replaced. Should I get different/shorter T part?

ROT King says:

I did not like the bolt that holds in the fuel filter but I did like the video. Thanks, and good work.

easydoz1 says:

Vacuum pumped mine… And inspect the lines they get cracked and damaged easy.

myturbodieseldotcom says:

It’s probably leaking oil and burning off. Then the fumes go into the cabin. Take it to your mechanic and have it inspected because this is just a guess. And your question has nothing to do with how to change the fuel filter. Join my forum at myturbodiesel if you want detailed answers.

Eski mazotu filtrenin içine tekrar koymamalısın özellikle alt tapasından koyuyor tamamen yanlış bir uygulama.

Gloobner says:

My wife has a TDI Bug and it runs fine but keeps stalling while she is driving around and hard to restart. A shop checked it out and said nothing was wrong with the engine but it did it again. I suspect she needs a new fuel filter…..is that a proper diagnosis? I only think that because I had a nissan truck that did the same thing and after hundreds of dollars at shops never fixing the problem my grand father put in a ten dollar fuel filter and it ran perfect.

onetwofive varma says:

You are very correct my friend. I was talking about PD engines, because I don’t even call them engines 😀 But thanks for mentioning that. I just realized that its good to know how to deal with different types of engine. Even if I myself would never buy a PD engine, knowing how to deal with one, could be useful if some friends get into trouble with their PD engines, I wish you and your family a happy holiday 🙂

Jason Daniels says:

Diesel only.

Jason Daniels says:

This has nothing to do with the PD motor. Your instructions are for the older style ALH engine.

Jason Daniels says:

You can do it either way but what you need to do AFTER you button it up is to cycle the key at least 5 times so the lift pump can purge any air/finish priming.

Jason Daniels says:

Tow it to a diesel shop or VW and have them check it out. You are missing some parts or they are damaged. Smoke? Maybe some diesel mist from the lift pump in the tank. It won’t run because air is in the system now.

onetwofive varma says:

I’m sure your car is fine now, but I say this just in case: You need to lose the bolt on top of the injectors and crank the engine till fuel comes out of the head of injectors. Then screw them back and crank again. Car will start. You need to have a full battery for doing this! Open the 2 of the bolts first and then close them and open the other two! I say again, battery needs to be fully charged, because diesel engines have a minimum RPM before they can start. I learned this the very hard way:(

TZU motto says:

thank you again…

Rebecca Mawson says:

i just did mine & the previous filter didnt have the michey mouse clip it was screwed down & the new one needs a clip. I have fitted the new one & tried to use a generic clip but air and smoke are coming out of the gap. Is this normal? Car wont run now!

Wing Lui says:

very well organized and precised demo. I enjoy it very much.

258Dellboy says:

Thanks for a very well explained video will save me some £££ 🙂

mw2black says:

Is this just for diesel or gas too?

socram says:

The fuel is even more heaten by the high pressure (about 70 °C) and the TDI motor got a fuel-cooler which opens at about 70 °C in my case (2004 Passat). So the heat of the motor block isn’t that bad.

BassGrenadeLighting says:

I cant believe they put the fuel filter right next to the block??? mine is next to the air filter box and the fuel would never heat up….yours looks like the fuel may get a bit warm??

Great my Audi A4 2.5 V6 1999 was exactly the same quicker than reading the manuals went like a dream thanks

Hi, I have a 2006 Polo 1.4 TDI with the filter 6Q0127401F and I want to replace it:
the problem is the filter has only two ducts!!! (If you search the images on google you can see it).
So How can I pump the fuel inside the new filter to avoid air in the circuit after replacement and start engine immediately?
Please help me..
thank you very much!

What the show does is felt from golf 2? can it works on a passat 2000 model, because after I changed filter holder, the car will not go so well! it may be because of that?

corso bazatu says:

great video mate,good demonstration,thank you.

maverik8385 says:

never thought of using the fuel from the old filter to fill the new one up. i just use a small hand pump with a one way valve to suck fuel in the new filter.

myturbodieseldotcom says:

That would be better but the fuel out the bottom is filtered. I discarded the first squirt and the rest is clean. This exact filter filters from top-down, up middle tube. Cut open this filter type and see for yourself.

evileltdude says:

I would never use the fuel from an old fuel filter, you can use powerservice or some lubro moly.

MrCloseprotection says:

Hi there could you tell me what the part is with the mikey mouse clip is ? As ive broken that plastic part and need to replace it. Thanks

myturbodieseldotcom says:

It’s under the car tucked by the fuel tank. Totally different filter and instructions.
