Easy DIY #transmission #oil change / oil after 15 years/150k km #audi #a6 #c6 #audi

Even if Audi A6 C6 owner’s manual says nothing about changing oil in manual gearbx it is a maintenance task that can extend the life of your transmission.
Wondering how does the old oil look after almost 15 years/150k km? It looks dark and it smells really bad.

Tools and Materials Needed:
Optional: additive for flushing manual transmissions, a syringe with a flexible hose to take out a bit of old oil then put the additive to the gearbox
-Suitable Gearbox Oil: For my A6 C6 BPJ FWD manual gearbox I have used around 2,6L of FUCHS TITAN SINTOFLUID 75W80 GL-4 (VW G 052 911). The use of incorrect oil can lead to gearbox damage, so do your research!
-Drain Pan/Bucket 5-10 liters: To catch the old oil.
-Hex10 bit for filler and drain plugs
-Torque Wrench: To tighten bolts to 32Nm torque.
-Funnel with a Flexible Hose: For adding new oil.
-Break cleaner and a cloth/paper towel for cleaning
-Good to have: gloves and safety glasses for protection.

Steps
If you are not using the additive for flushing manual transmission, skip the next step.
-Put the flushing additive to the gearbox: remove the fill plug (located on the left side of the gearbox), then using syringe take out some old oil so you can put the additive in (my case 150ml), put the additive in the grearbox. Close the filler hole and take the car for a 5-10km ride using all gears to let the additive do it’s job.

-Drain the Old Oil: Place the drain pan under the drain plug, then remove the drain plug using the Hex10 bit. Allow all the old oil to drain out completely. This might take some time, be patient.
-Close the drain hole, it is best to use a new plug, I have used old ones. Tighten the drain plug with 32Nm using the torque wrench.
-Fill with New Oil: Remove the fill plug. Using the funnel with a flexible hose, pour the new gearbox oil into the gearbox until it reaches the level of the fill hole.
-Close the fill plug with 32Nm torque
-Check for Leaks
-Test Drive, pay attention to the gearbox’s performance, ensuring that it shifts smoothly without any strange noises.

Tips
-Dispose of the old oil responsibly. Auto parts stores should accept the used oil for recycling.
-If you’re unsure about the type of oil your gearbox needs, consult professionals or the owner’s manual.
