Yep, no glue - you just press it in.

Does the weather strip go back on without any glue??? About to do this

happywrenching says:

It took us 2 hours to do this (was our first time too) and that included messing with the camera and looking up diagrams. I would say 1 1/2 – 2 hours for first timers.

hi–what is the labor time from beginning to end? trying to convince my husband to do this and save us $500!!!

edieisdead says:

helped me a lot, thank you

happywrenching says:

Yeah I question the same thing. As you can see from the comments, its not just the B6 generation that has this problem but everything from B5 up to B8.

happywrenching says:

Yep, those black rails do pivot and that’s exactly what I meant by “marking”. Lots of good info, thanks for stopping by and sharing!

so you wont make my mistake. i didn’t have the old one too reference for this since the cable was mangled and pulled out. had everything bolted in when i noticed the cable was hitting the window as it went up and down. I had to pull it out again and do it right. so watch for this. it will go together and fit back in the door with the cables crossed the wrong way. :(

one very important thing to make sure of prior to mounting the glass back on the assembly is making sure the cable coming out of the top of the blue center spool section (leading to the top rear pulley towards the rear of the car, once mounted) is on the inside (towards the center of the car) of the cable its crossing over (the cable that goes to the bottom rear pulley).

great video. you saved my butt on this job. just did it on a 06 A4 B7 pretty identical. few things that are worth mentioning you may want to add to tag. when you say “mark the window regulator so that you could put it in the same place” i stared at the assembly unclear by what you meant. i figured the two black rails could pivot to a wide degree which i saw to be the case once i loosened the screws, so i took a pencil and stenciled around them to where they mounted. worked good but….

Mine has failed for a second time. 2004 A4 just like the one in the vid. Thank you for posting this..but I do question why this isn’t already an Audi recall.

happywrenching says:

Thanks for the info, I’m sure the B8 owners will find that helpful.

tuned112 says:

Works just like that. Just did it ! Thanks for this upload.

tuned112 says:

With b8 its all the same. THANKS A LOT!!

happywrenching says:

Nope, I haven’t played around with a B8 yet.

Alextimof says:

Hi, any idea how to remove the door panel on A4 B8 ?

Chris Kitchen says:

Excellent video! My window suddenly made a grinding noise and ground to a halt fully open.. just in time for a belting thunderstorm. Only problem I found was the Torx bolts holding the regulator mechanism in place in the top section appear to be made of putty, as the one of the heads totally caved. I now have to drill the thing out! And of course, the replacement regulator mechanism doesn’t come with replacement bolts…arrgh. So it’s off down to the main stealer tomorrow for some spares…

Zacky San says:

Awesome, you saved me a few dollars. Thank you so much!!

FeasableOption says:

Thanks for a well made comprehensive video. Keep up the good work!

BlakJak206 says:

I love my Audi too much and dont trust myself nearly enough to do this myself sooooo to the shop I go! lol

Anas Faraj says:

thank you very much for this perfect procedure

happywrenching says:

I don’t see why it wouldn’t be.

stosh562 says:

i wonder if this is the same basic procedure for an Audi Allroad

A Loof says:

A very astute observation. Even if every person who had an issue with the Audi window regulator looked at this video, it would be a horrible statistic. But realize that only a small faction of a percent is probably looking at this video to try and troubleshoot the problem.

I currently have the issue for the second time on my 2002 A4 and once before on my 1997 A4.

Has it been solved? Or are a large percentage of Audi / Volkswagen owners still suffering this issue?

happywrenching says:

Nope, half Russian half American. Though a Canadian side might come in the future 🙂

Ian M says:

Awesome video, so clear and detailed… i’m going to do this tomorrow. Is that a Canadian accent?

404marc says:

Rogert that.

happywrenching says:

You can do it either way but since the glass has to be removed from the tracks its easier to do this with the window down.

404marc says:

should the window be up or down when fixing?

Thanx bro, God bless u

But 101,000 views!! Audi you should be ashamed of yourselves.
They are not made how they used to be, I will never buy another.
