►The Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve reduces the built-up positive pressure within the engine. A common failure point on earlier EA888 engines, it’s better on the Gen 3 engine, but not perfect. As such, there’s a good chance you’ll have to replace the PCV on a higher mileage B9 A4 or A5. The PCV is located on top of the cylinder head, so it’s pretty accessible, and you don’t need any specialty tools to replace it, making it a straightforward process.
The PCV valve, also known as the crankcase vent valve, is a relatively simple piece of kit with a very important diaphragm. If the diaphragm tears or leaks, it won’t properly remove the positive pressure, and issues will begin. These will be oil leaks from various seals and a whistling sound as the positive pressure escapes past those seals.
In this video, FCP Euro’s In-House Technician, Rusty Herten, replaces the PCV valve on an Audi B9 A4.
