Sorry for the poor dark video quality. Not sure what I was thinking –
bring a light in?

tomoexx says:

Great series, Rich. Any issues to be aware of in getting rid of the
coolant smell? Is cleaning the blower assembly a must? I am having core
replaced in ’04 (easier than yours as you do not have to remove entire
dash), but want t make sure mechanic does complete job so I do not have
coolant in the ventilation system after.

It does feel like a victory once that heater box comes out 🙂 I was not
sure I would get my car back together AND running again lol You are a
warrior and muscled through to get it done! Nice job! Is it back together
yet? Oh, I had a lot of left over “redundant” screws lol

HUGEMEOW says:

I have to do this job…DAMMIT!! And a blower fan on my other one….grrr
How about i fly you to Australia and you do them for me?? ..and im a
mechanic!

Rich Koldenhoven says:

While I’m waiting for the blower assembly I’m replacing the instrument
panel lcd display. 50% of the pixel were gone. I’m not a mechanic but I can
do this with little fear. An air solder station and surgeon steady hands
should do it… haaa

I just got my heater unit out yesterday, I brought it in the house to redo
the foam on the flaps (with felt instead) and I’m putting it back in today.
If you unbolt the support bracket, you can pull it forward to get at those
two impossible bolts, which took an hour

Rich Koldenhoven says:

Not yet – I went out and purchased a 1/4″ air ratchet to save my hands and
wrists. I am waiting for the blower motor to arrive. The blower motor was
squeaking just a bit at low speeds and it has sealed bearings so for $58 I
bought a new one. Its easy to remove even if the blower assembly is
installed but the glove box needs to come out and I don’t feel like doing
that again.

Rich Koldenhoven says:

sure – plus $14.95… lol…

Rich Koldenhoven says:

done!! – go to part 3!!

wizkid01 says:

if you google it: ‘elsaweb’ – its an online vw/audi service manual, it
lists every type of repair including heater core replacement. with
extensive illustrations and step by step guide as well as of every
screw/bolt/clip locations… think you couldve saved a bit of labour time
with it. my heater core is leaking on my audi a3 and im replacing it this
weekend. kinda goes without saying – im not looking forward to it…..!!
but theres no avoiding it – it has to be done.

Czy mozesz napisac co po kolei trzeba wykręcać aby to zrobić ?
