nice work you deserve more money, thanks for sharing,

Stuart Anderson says:

Great video overall. There are no DIYs for this process on any 2.0T FSI
related communities that I can find (vortex, golfmkv, a3, etc)

I would like to hear some speech during the video, talking through some
possible issues or things to look out for. Why be careful about touching
the ground and not just disconnect battery beforehand for example? Or for
those that haven’t dealt with tensioners before, why is it important to
keep it in locked position? A few seconds of speech here and there would
go a long way so additional research isn’t required.

This is EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you very much! I searched all over the
Audi forums couldn’t find any DIY guides on swapping the thermostat
housing! I believe my thermostat died in my 09′ TT so the temp gauge is
pegged all the way to the left and I need to crank the temp dial all the
way to the right to get heat.

Gabe Kirk says:

Going to be using this video to help me through my Thermostat replacement
on my MKV 2.0T GLI.

Thanks for making this!

Ive been a vag technician for over twenty years. I thought your boss at
work should pay you more money lol .

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

A faulty thermostat (I think) shouldn’t cause misfire issues. If it only
happens when first starting the engine, then yes, I would lean towards the
carbon buildup on the intake valves. I have yet to perform this procedure
myself on a customers car. You can try burning them clean via a 20/30min
run on the highway at 4500rpm (keep in lower gears so you are still within
the speed limit. I have not tried this myself, but through youtube, I found
a video where this was recommended, before repair.

everfresh59 says:

My thermostat died this summer, so I’m about to change it with the winter
coming. Would this cause misfire? Or should I really consider intake valve
cleaning? If it is intake valves, what is the normal labour time for this
work? I’m probably going to get a VAG specialist to do it. FYI, I have yet
to do intake valve cleaning.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

The thumping noise you heard could have been the EVAP Leak Detection Pump
(this is normal), a thermostat should not cause a thumping noise in my
opinion.

Lionel de la Riviere says:

Took my 2006 A3 for rear brakes to the Audidealer/Tech.And also with the
engine light on.The Tech show me the codes of what’s causing the warning.
1.Fuel capseal broken. 2.Bad Oxygen sensor B1 S2. 3.Thermostat.I bought the
fuel cap/seal and O2 sensor via internet (OEM parts) and installed those
myself. The thermostat, the Audi dealer will do that next weekend. Before I
change the fuel cap and O2 sensor, the A3 made a thumping noise driving and
at a stop . Is it because of the bad thermostat ?

alifancheita says:

On my GTI 2.0 they are 5 mm

Kwame Mayes says:

Great video. This gives me a good idea what I am about to get into with a
06 VW Passat. Tensioner, alternator, and engine looks identical. Pray for
me.

alifancheita says:

I thought it was going to be easy but it took me like 5 hours. I don’t have
the type of tools that he has though. Good luck.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Praying costs extra! Just kidding LOL. I’m happy that you like the video
and are able to make out / understand what is going on. Too many people
complain about “view is not close enough”, “you are moving your head too
much”, “talk / explain what you are doing” etc.. People forget that I am
recording while I am working, I don’t have time to be a “service manual”.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Sorry, other side of the country.

T3 Baconator says:

im paying someone to do this for me

john mar says:

BLODDY aUDI DESIGN, LUCKY I GOT AN OLD S3, I DNT NEED TO REMOVE
ALTERNATOR…LOL

racioful says:

Very good. Was already some time to change the thermostat in my golf v gti
and so already gave you an idea of how I will do…

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Hi, the torx are T27 or T30 and the triple square are #6 (I think)… it is
best to buy a full set of Torx & Triple Square bits, that way you do not
have to run around to look for the correct size. Sorry I can not provide
exact information.

everfresh59 says:

Any chance your from Montreal? LOL.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

I think the Mitchell Labor Guide suggests a little over 3hrs (includes
filling & bleeding)… so anything above that could be expected for first
timer (more time if you need to source tools). Anything below 2.5hrs if you
have several under your belt. Thanks for watching & taking the time to
comment!

racioful says:

By the way could you tell me what is the measure of the two bolts “tripple
square”? thank you

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Thanks for keeping “us in the trade” busy 🙂 … and thanks for watching &
taking the time to comment!

everfresh59 says:

Awesome video! How long do you think it will take a first timer to do this?

wolfsburghome says:

Fixed!!!! thanks your video give me and idea of how to do it!

david carranza says:
