You are doing it right, but there is many steps that are not nesssesary to do and will just waste time, many things going on with the bumper, and another thing is for example the cooling fan, instead of undoing the 4 bolts from the front, all you gotta do is undo the bigger single bolt on the rear of it and it will come off in one piece with the fan clutch 🙂 Just trying to share to make life easier for others, just like you do with this video! Thumbs up!

max kool says:

is this sped up?

kyle joyce says:

Just keep in mind, you can bend them if you lean on the nose. I have a couple of spare bolts that I use for this.

kyle joyce says:

Nonames00 is right. You can do it in about 90 minutes by just sliding the nose forward. The two bolts that go vertically and hold the bumper on can be threaded into any of the 8 holes for the crash bars that hold the bumper and nose in place. Thread one into either side, and slide the nose away from the car. Gives you about 3″ of extra space. I work in a VW shop and does these almost every day, never takes more than 2 hours.

ichh fickenn audiiiii sooo filll arbeittt keteeee ist ketteeeee

ReverendVW says:

You did it the book way. Easier, but takes longer. no point draining from radiator, just wait till you pull W/P.

David Garegnani says:

Exactly – dont buy it if you cant afford it. If you want an appliance, buy a Mazda.

btownballer27 says:

Screw this crap, power steering just went and timing needs to be done. Totally selling mine and getting a Honda, way fucking easier to work on and these cars are problem after problem

adanlongoria23 says:

How much would you charge for a job like that??? I see your in Washington State

Anthony M says:

Don’t buy it if you can’t afford it. It’s really that simple. By the way, if you have to twist numbers to “afford” it, you can’t afford it. Short answer, don’t.

Best guess A: shop ran low on ice for the beverage repository, ran refrigerant lines from Audi to ice chest with on board refer unit, kept drinks cold.
B: Technician didnt want to disconnect any more wires for sensors and lights (maybe some trickyness with airbag sensors) and only needed the 6 inches he gained tilting the bumper and lights and whatever they were attached to onto the cooler to rest (so not to yank the wires).

I am very torn on purchasing a used Audi. A friend has one and loves it and others who I have talked to love them.. The thing that holds me back is the maintenance. I just dont think I have the money to maintain one.. Thoughts? Suggestions?

On a side note, what part of WA are you from? I am in SW WA.

have to do this soon 🙁 idk if im ready

ThePaintballGuy says:

Cooler is for the power steering. Watch for the little clamps that connect the hard cooler line to the rubber lines. They will come loose and start leaking if you don’t tighten them back down.

Jim Sawyer says:

What is the cooler for:-) I can only guess

deamonmachine says:

Yes, can’t do it w/o pulling the front end out.

Jim Sawyer says:

I was kind of wondering is front end removal REALLY called for or is it one of those make job easier things

Jim Sawyer says:

I give up – what is the cooler under bumper for?

DaPress702 says:

sure you do it in 1.5 hours but I bet your off by one point and it runs like shit afterwards. I rather take it all apart and do it right the first time, maybe do preventive maintenance while I am there.

Fam Naranjo says:

Thanks for the show. i’m going to takle this in a couple of weeks.

PlisiKokajve says:

Ha ha ha Lol never buy a car from LATINO…

nonames00 says:

3.0L BBJ motor needs tools to lock the cams, so rocker cover gaskets. The cam adjuster caps need replacing as the o’rings will leak after replacement if you use the old ones

nonames00 says:

It’s not necessary, more ideal. I’ve done more of these than I’ve had hot dinners as an Audi tech. RE: my previous reply doing a V6 Bi turbo with front end on, pictures to prove it. Even more difficult with the charge pressure pipes in the way. Can still be done. Also do a nice trick replacing camshaft chain tensioner gasket in no time at all. Which most ppl would know of anyway

E'raan Lue says:

no need to remove grille insert/bumper etc.

pertsae says:

going to chance my a4 1.8t belt in weekend.. let’s see how long it takes 🙂

TheBattlestorm says:

if the timing belt breaks on an interference engine there is a good possibility of valve to piston collision. if this collision happens it will bend valves and possibly damage the tops of the pistons. if this happens the head will need to be pulled and the damaged valves replaced. a simple test would be a leak down test. this will tell you if any valve damage has happend

jolmeaki says:

Seeing this video makes me think. Why the fuck I buy this car. Bought it 3 months ago knowing I wanted to do alot of things. Looks to involved. I think the head has damage to. Fuck. Person I bought it off must have over reved.

Hi, I have a question on my 2000 VW Passat 1.8L turbo. My car cut off the the HWY & I had to tow it. The Mechanic working on my car said it was a timing belt issue. I bought the parts & he changed the timing belt, tensioner, & tensioner pulley. The car is still not starting. He is now saying that it is my Vals are broken…Please advise b/c I am so confused. He wants to take it to another shop to run some test…etc

nonames00 says:

Not a drama, I’ve got pics somewhere of a 2.7 bi turbo t belt, front end not touched just for shits and gigs. 2009 A8 v8 catalytic converters with engine and box in car is a mission but possible too !
