1994 Audi S4 Timing Belt Service Step-By-Step (mostly)

Changing the timing belt, water pump, thermostat etc. on your Audi UrS4 or UrS6 2.2 might seem like a bit of a daunting task but it’s not as scary as you might think as long as you have the right tools.

The most important specialty tool used in the timing belt replacement is the damper pulley locking Tool # 3256. It is unique to the 1992-95 S4/S6 with the AAN. You’ll want to obtain this tool first or find someone that will loan it to you.

I run the “period correct” Pentosin NF antifreeze mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Your choice may vary here but be sure to properly flush the system if you’re switching between different coolant types. The important part for the AAN is that it is phosphate free.
