This video goes over how to replace a battery on a 2017 Acura TLX 3.5 all-wheel-drive with start stop technology. This should be the same process for any 2014 – 2020 Acura TLX with start stop technology. The auto idle stop helps maximize fuel efficiency by automatically shutting off the engine when you’re not moving and then automatically restarting the engine when you press the gas pedal. This feature also helps improve emissions and mpg ratings for the manufacturers. If your vehicle comes with a 650 cranking amp battery, you can use a battery that has higher cranking amps if it fits into your vehicle. More power is always better! In colder climates, a battery can last five years or longer, but in hotter climates, a car battery typically lasts only three years. Fully charged batteries should read 12.6 volts or above. If the car is running, the number should be between 13.7 and 14.7 for a properly functioning battery. Some signs that your battery is starting to fail are slow or no cranking, dim lights, unusual electrical issues, and of course a warning light on the cars dashboard symbolizing a battery. Car batteries basically start the vehicle. Once started, the alternator takes over and supplies the power to the vehicle and recharges the battery, but at idle the battery may supply some power to the vehicle accessories that are on. Batteries come in group sizes that are designated to fit certain vehicles. This is something that is predetermined by the manufacturer. With all the features and technology on this vehicle, it comes from the factory with the higher end AGM battery. If your battery is failing, sometimes your car may feel sluggish or fail to start at the intersection. Usually it is a sign of your battery starting to go out. Luckily on this model there is a button to push to bypass the auto start system. Once the button is pushed the car functions and operates as a normal car would, continuously running until you decide to shut the car off. Many stop start cars have larger battery capacity and more robust starters to compensate for this feature. When replacing the battery, make sure that you buy one that is specified for auto start stop.
