How to fix Acura/Honda not starting in hot weather

Older Acura/Honda models (especially Acura Integras) often don’t start in hot weather. Reason is a defective fuel pump relay. This instructional video shows …

battery, alternator, distributor, spark plugs and had the engine rebuilt im
going to try changing the relay and fuse but if it dont work what do you
recommend i have wasted alot more money then i would like to

The Fishing Band says:

Thanks. I’m going to try this on my 1999 Honda Accord. Fish On!!

fontheking5 says:

Sadly this video won`t start for me , it just skips right to the end sadly .

cat Chaser says:

I had this problem in my 90 Accord, its a real common problem. ALWAYS look
at these utube videos BEFORE you go to a repair shop to fix a car.

ericambrosecoon says:

No, he has what’s called an “accent”. This is something people from other
countries have, but I’m sure you weren’t aware that there actually ARE
other countries outside the United States. Thanks.

beautielena says:

i have an 94 GSR with da same problem and i hope dis wrks ty for urr help

hanumanchu215 says:

WTF I CAN SEE

Jamal Umar says:

@170324341a ur right my bro had the same problem he would have to tap the
relay ?and it would start the car right up it can b loose harness?

daalltiment says:

This sounds just like my 97 Acura integra!! Thanks! Hope it works for
mines.. I’ll be back later to let you know if it worked..

170324341a says:

Yes, it’s got nothing to do with oil pressure. The Main Relay is a circuit
point that gets voltage to its various gates through soldering points.
Those points fracture with time and, for various physical reasons, will
increase in electrical resistance as the temperature goes up. That’s why
the car doesn’t start after a short trip or when the car’s been sitting
outside in the heat for a long time.

ohshit109 says:

These youtube videos are priceless for relatively simple jobs like this. I
am a woman and I am hard for cash right now. My car won’t start. It will
crank but not turnover. I have a 94 Honda Civic. I paid a mechanic $60
dollars to diagnose the issue and he told me it was the distributor. $200
dollars later and a new distributor it is still doing the same thing. So
the next mechanic stated it was the fuel pump and wants to charge me $150
to replace. I will replace it plus the fuel relay myself.

schtonk says:

@yagurl89: Not sure what kind of relay a 93 legend needs, but the part
number should be easy to find by Googling. Different models use different
relay types which aren’t interchangeable, so make sure it’s the right one.

wizziebaldwin says:

OK NUMNUTS DO YOU VIDEO DURING THE DAY! SOMETHING that you are CRITICALLY
WRONG ABOUT! YOU DO NOT DESOLDER ALL OF THE JOINTS BEFORE YOU RESOLDER
THEM! In you case it worked, but this is not a good idea. Sometimes the
components on the other side of the PCB fall into the relay housing. NOT
FUN!

joseph quiroz says:

Dude u just saved me a world of headache so glad I found this video

TheDrjodi says:

having this problem with our ’01 mazda 626. i’m gonna try this out. i
really hope this works. i live in FL so the car won’t start alot of the
time.

Manuel Miranda says:

Starving a car on gas gets the fuel pump hot “high circuit fault” check
fuse for fuel pump I am sure it is blown .

DisizzzPeggy says:

My Acura doesn’t sound like that, because I do not own an Acura…But my
Civic sounds exactly like that..!!!

kennedy wong says:

Don’t go to the mechanic to replace something that working because you get
rip off..

imstraight0 says:

Is this gunna b the same for a 96 acura

Chris Brown says:

is this guy a retard????

josecarlos199 says:

Its got nothing to do whit fuel pressure

mike none says:

This information is WRONG! what if oil pressure switch is faulty that would
make the vehicle not start not true. Try it yourself disconnect oil
pressure switch and you will find out vehicle will start. Instead of you
doing all this working and if you have doubts that it would work try to
diagnosing it first. ALl you did was a repetition work and guessing. A way
to test this is by cranking the vehicle while it wont start and have
labscope or metter to the injectors and you will find voltage low

Chris Brown says:

im not talking about his accent you fucking dumbass

mosoworks says:

Accents come not just other countries. It also comes from people from other
states. Like florida, rhode island, texas, ca, and yo mama. LoL.

chugmonki says:

I think he meant FUEL PRESSURE not oil pressure, other than that he is 100%
right. This is a very common problem w/ early honda motors

LOVETOYOTAS says:

Are you shure its not just flooding making it hard to start. The sensor
thinking the engine is cold when its really hot so it goes and mixes the
fuel to rich and then its hard to start.

kevin desjadon says:

could u please help me out. my 92 integra starts when i jump start it then
i let it run to charge up the battery then i turn off the car and wait a
few mins and try to start it again and when i turn the key all the dash
lights go out and then the battery is dead again

fontheking5 says:

Reminds me of Volvo 240 , 740 and 940 s that often have problems getting
started in hot weather or when the engine is hot .

Markie Sultrail says:

I have a problem with my 1993 legend,,, when I put it in drive its not
going,it have a very hard time to move, the ideling is ok

ohshit109 says:

I am nervous about doing the job but I was able to replace the distributor
and I know I can replace these two.

yagurl89 says:

will it work on a 93 acura legend, if so what color does it need to be
because my bf bought a red little box when i thought it was the black box.
did he get the right one

Serena Thomason says:

i have a 1997 acura tl and i ran out of gas and it wont start i put gas , a
new pump , a new filter and now they think its to rely help plzz

wizziebaldwin says:

@chugmonki I believe he is correct just from a logic standpoint. When
starting your car you might have fuel pressure from the previous run. If
your car sat for a month you would have none. The fuel pump will not
operate if the engine is not functioning (no oil pressure – except for a 2
second period during engine start). This is a well known fact that can be
backed up with the car’s electirical schematics. This is NOT an issue with
GM’s North Star Engine that can run without OIL briefly.

R Mathis says:

I don’t think this is always the problem with how the car sound.
