How To Drain Coolant Honda Insight | P2 Fixing Car AC Issues By Replacing One Component At A Time

This is a second video in the series of videos documenting “Our Journey To Fixing Car AC Issues By Replacing One Component At A Time”. You can read more about the background information below. In this video, we will showing you how to drain the coolant. There are many reason why you would drain the coolant, but in our case, we need to remove the radiator. Without draining the coolant by capturing properly into a container, once you remove the bottom hose, there will be coolant all over the floor. Draining coolant from radiator is fairly easy and require simple tools. Here are the #ad links to tools, parts and accessories you may need to perform this repair:

Some of the reasons why you would want to drain the coolant are:
1. To remove and replace radiator.
2. Coolant flush, drain & re-fill – A coolant flush can prevent damage to both your vehicle’s cooling system and engine. Keeping your system clear of unwanted debris can protect components of your cooling system, such as hoses and coolant lines. These elements of your engine’s cooling system can prevent significant damage to your vehicle.

Background Info:
Nafis bought his Honda Insight 3 years ago. The AC in his car only lasted about a day. He brought the car to the mechanic who told him (without testing) that the car has a leak, need a new compressor and a host of other parts and it would cost him over $1,000. Nafis didn’t want to do it for financial reasons, but this year the summer is extremely hot and he asked Aiman’s dad to help him diagnose and fix the faulty air conditioning. Fixing, removing and replacing components in most vehicles is fairly easy but diagnosing the problems and issues is the hardest part. The most important thing in any diagnostic is to find or trace to the real root cause because otherwise even if the issue is fix, the same problem could develop later. So in Nafis’s case, Aiman’s dad agreed to help but his unorthodox approach would involve replacing one part or component at a time to eliminate potential source instead of diagnosing and replacing the faulty part(s). You can read more about this in our first / intro video below, and you can watch our progress and we discover by clicking on the various videos below:

By the way this is Nafis’s 2011 Honda Insight Gen II. We have also worked on Asfa’s Insight Gen 2 which the same exact color as Nafis’s, except Asfa’s is 2010).
