djaka401 says:

hi my lower ball joint popped out. i think it was when i jack the car and
had the front tire resting on a spare tire to assure car wouldnt fall while
i was working under it. is there a way to pop back in? or should i change
it? its been making a squeaking noise for a while on and off though

Ben Silva says:

@bprower2 oh i would be more concerned with the upper ball joint….. an
easy method of getting that out?

John Weigold says:

@OnTheBall20 a 1/2″ drive craftsmen wrench is placed between the hub
assembly and the lower control arm. Then pressure is placed on the top of
the hub which causes the gap between the lower control arm and the hub to
get smaller (without a wrench there). With the wrench being there it causes
the lower control arm to pop free from the hub. It may work on more cars
other than honda/acura, it just depends on the design of the hub/lca.

John Weigold says:

@aut0tek Got it updated. Thanks for the advice. I don’t know why I didn’t
think of that.

John Weigold says:

@SHANGRALAAAA17 Yea I’ve used that before and it “mushroomed” the bolt so I
could no longer put the nut back on. I had to then replace the ball joint.
Now, that was on a different car, so they probably use material that is not
as strong.

Raley T says:

pickle forks will split a boot, the lil tie rod seperater will mushroom a
threaded section (unless you put the nut back on alil bit to cover the
cotter pin hole) and finally, this method, after doing it a shit ton of
times will eventally wear out the balljoint, but not much worse than
driving on it…

SHANGRALAAAA17 says:

jesus just use the 12 dollar balljoint tool from autozone..ive used it 1000
times. nooo problems lol

raidacaipo says:

owner who labeled this video “ball joint removal” is retarded… hes
breaking the ball joint free from the LCA not removing the ball joint.

camberwear says:

you just slip it on.

pdoble says:

it works awesome, just did it

Eggie Aponte says:

LOL make sure the bar is in there good and step directly on it, or you will
be tasting your fender, and OEM taste oh so good.

Ben Jajanf says:

Hey that’s my foot and car! I originally posted this on Honda-tech ages
ago. The clip is short because I used my Canon G1 and it’s only limited to
30 seconds at 480 x 360(?). It was high resolution at the time. Glad it’s
helping people.

alltracfreak says:

the proper way to separate the ball joint is to hit the flat spots on the
hub with a hammer.

charliccs says:

work perfect… thank you.

Ben Silva says:

this is an awesome technique……. but is there an easy way to get it back
in???? is the question.

JethroTull18 says:

i just tried this along with other ways to separate the ball joint, but
none have worked..help?

Jonathan Azurdia says:

This technique really works. I did it to my Eg civic hatch lastnight to
remove the axles. Is was as easy as 1-2-3.

MrChris21012 says:

Great tip. just did this and it worked great. alot better than hammering
away at a stubborn ball joint smashing up the dust shield and working alot
harder than you need to.

Teyanhung says:

Nice video but how do you get a new ball joint back on. =)

blahblah718293 says:

i dont really get it. step 1: hit the knuckle with a hammer step 2: get a
bigger hammer step 3: repeat steps 1 through 2.

eeejayate says:

PAINLESS! SO COOL, THANK YOU BUD!

Neejay says:

Super easy, worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing.

bryantrn says:

be careful, i cracked both ball joint boots on my 97 accord. they were
probably going to go anyways.

evilmatchbox says:

Sweet idea. I hate honda setups my Mazda 6 has the same 2 lower control arm
setup they are a pain in the ass. Except mine come in from the top instead
of the bottom so I don’t know if this would work. Let it all the way down
then jack the hub up mayb?

pdoble says:

soooooo much easier than any other way.

EvokDubstep says:

worked FLAWLESSLY. Thanks a bunch.

anthonuy2 says:

so what did he do exactly..im lost here

slickevo says:

5th,6th,and 7th, 3 ppl here

pr8urvtec says:

Thank you for this video. I couldn’t get my CRX balljoints loose and they
were already replaced so a pickle was not the answer. This works like a
charm on the first try and took less than 2 minutes. THANKS!!!!!

Nmers1 says:

Going to try this on my 2006 RSX-S. thanks!

syphilistic says:

There is a tool for this that works without risking damaging the ball joint
threads or damaging the boot. OTC part number 6297. Harbor freight even
sells an even cheaper version for 16 bucks or so.

DCk20a says:

best video ever

John Weigold says:

@aut0tek Got it updated. Thanks for the idea. Not sure why I didn’t think
of that.

Brendon00000 says:

funny how it shows it separating thats the easy part how the f*$& do you
actually remove the ball joint for a new one

PsychoFreke says:

@bprower2 how do you mushroom a bolt with a ball joint fork? I stopped
doing it the way you show in the video when I started wondering what this
could do to the threads…

Favian Orozco says:

Post continued… 4. Remove cotter pin and castle nut 5. Jack up LCA,
insert thick part of Ratchet(handle) into gap like in the video 6. Drop
jack 7. Force hub down, don’t kick it to death, just use some weight. it
should pop off after that. Good luck!

taiden says:

@taiden and by wrench i mean ratchet.. long night hahah

alltracfreak says:

actually your suppossed to use a ball joint seperator

Favian Orozco says:

OK here’s what needs to be done before trying this. Some people were
wondering… 1. Unbolt sway bar from LCA, end link and d-bracket 2. Unbolt
bottom of strut fork connected to LCA 3. Unbolt LCA’s rear bracket
connected to chassis
