First of all great job on the DIY video I just watched both parts! Not sure if this was ever discussed, but I remember you mentioned about the original belt on the truck you were working on being a Gates belt and it was possibly replaced before. Well I was ordering some timing belt parts for my 07 MDX and found this in the item description:
BELT, TIMING (197YU20 VE-501) (UNITTA)
Part Number: 14400-RCA-A01
Upon doing a search for “UNITTA” I found it stood for “GATES UNITTA”

Are you asking if moving the power steering pump will make the timing belt loose? The power steering pump does not affect the timing belt. If the cams are NOT in alignment, yes you have to get the 2 cams and the crank into alignment before starting the engine, or serious damage could be done.

What if I’d already moved the power steering pump a bit, and made the belt loose. Do I need to reinstall it completely before I can position the cams correctly? Thank you so much for this video. Someone was helping me with this work but kinda left me high and dry.

Does it really matter when your not reusing the old belt? Why have to count and mark the new belt?

The vehicle was bought used with 120,000 miles on it. The previous owner could not remember if the timing belt had been done at the 100K mark. So when this job was done the vehicle had 130,000 miles on it.

@pilyo333, yes I will try and make a video that covers the timing belt on the D16. I need to find a car to work on, any one in the Southern California area that I can film their car, I will do the labor and you buy the parts.

@aaronac8, to tell you the truth I do not remember how many valleys there were between the RC and Crank, just triple check it and it should be good as long as you marked both cams and the crank properly. If that fails you can always independently set the 2 cams and the crank and then put the timing belt back on. If you run into problems let me know and I might be able yo help you out.

I will be doing a video on it soon but they are magnets held in place by a large hose clamp. My dad taught me this trick. What is does, if any metal shavings are in the engine from wear, as the oil circulates through the oil filter the magnets will catch it and hold it in place until the next oil change. One of my vehicles has 300,000 miles and I have done this from day one with it. I believe it works, and it costs less than $10 dollars to make.
