CREE LED Headlight Installation 1992 Acura Vigor -EricTheCarGuy

When my friend Luke from Motor Fiend asked me if I’d like to try a new set of LED lights for my 1992 Acura Vigor I said heck yes. This is honestly the easiest lighting upgrade I’ve ever done….

Stephen Tack says:

+EricTheCarGuy what about the high beams?

NYPATRIOT says:

I like the led idea of lighting but I don’t really see the difference in
installation, the hid kit for my truck was pretty much plug an play as
well.

Dillon1791 says:

Should have gotten the JDM-one piece housings as well!!

AnotherSiGuy says:

These and HIDs really need projectors to concentrate the beam imo. Also
higher frequency/temperature light (white/bluish light) doesn’t travel as
far anyway. They may be brighter but without projectors you will not be
able to see as far.

Mike P says:

Did we save some amps/watts ? Lessen the load on the battery & charging
system ?

John Sebeny says:

could we get a discounted rate if we use your name when ordering the LED
kits? :)

Systemrat2008 says:

The way I’ve mounted these ballasts is to put two strips of cheap double
sided tape on the back and put a bead of silicon sealer / adhesive between
the two strips. Clean the surface and press the unit onto where you want it.

The double sided tape will keep it in place while the silicon drys. The
silicon is far more resistant to heat and vibration over time compared to
the tape and if you need to you can easily leaver the unit off if needed.

ro63rto says:

Great kit but illegal, if you get caught, in pretty much every 1st world
country.
BTW my brother has a similar kit in his vw T3 ;-)

Able Lock says:

Why are you going to leave the highbeams still halogen there a certain
reason just a preference

James LeBlanc says:

I’d like if you could come back after winter and revisit these bulb, I’m
worried about water/weather proofing cause of the Fans in the back.

xAsmir says:

please be awsome and repaint that hood or just stick black carbon fiber
over it…your car looks like peace of shit. If you want more costumers you
need awsome looking car, so costumers arent scared, that you cant fix new
cars.

Colton Blumhagen says:

I’m still thinking about getting an HID kit, it will be quite a bit cheaper
than an LED kit, & I don’t mind the added installation time.

Big Guy Review says:

I am interested in LEDs but I think there is still room for improvement. I
see a lot of buses around here that use them and although they appear
bright. I notice that when passing the bus you can clearly see that the
light seems to just go everywhere rather than focus where you need them (on
the road and along the sides). Todays light housing are made for a light
bulb and not LEDs. Now if you were to replace the entire light, lets say on
your ford fairmont with a LED light/housing then you would see a big
difference since those set ups are made to reflect the LED light properly.
LOL and you think the LEDs were pricey for the Vigor. Go price a LED set up
for the fairmont. (Housing and reflector)

crapper1 says:

Might have to check with the DOT regulations seems this would be a nice
addon for my big truck cause freightliner uses 9003 type it shouldnt be too
hard to find em

Aloha Snackbar says:

night test!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg Gracia says:

I know the HID kits are a bit more to install… but besides the price
witch kit would you recommend more?

aserta says:

Headlights with fans. Next they will be water cooled and we will finally be
able to change the headlight fluid :))

Demeter Ákos says:

USA: Land of symmetric headlights and self-proposed light-“upgrades”… 🙂
NO off.

jaxxsunErie says:

I will be looking in to these. thanks

Daniele Dal Col says:

Drive at night if cars flash u, pull over and adjust a little than drive
again, repeat untill seem everyone is happy :D

Steven Watson says:

They look very good led headlights

buggsyspam says:

That’s awesome! It actually looks worth the money, and none of the hassle
(for me) of HID.

TOXIKFILMS says:

woah woah woah, 2 headlight vids? sweet

kcg795 says:

It looks like the new lights also create more foreground light. They don’t
seem to have enough intensity at the top of the beam to make up for the
excess foreground light at the bottom. So this can hurt your distance
vision. But yeah, HIDs in projectors only. The best way to upgrade your
car’s headlights to projectors is to take apart the headlights and install
projectors in them. This often requires cutting of the reflector bowl so
you can mount the projectors on them. Some projector kits, like the Mini
H1 projectors, let you insert the back of the projector through the bulb
hole and tighten a nut on the other side. These perform much better than
halogens and there’s no glare at all, but don’t perform nearly as good as
the more advanced projectors, like the EvoX-Rs, FX-Rs, or even OEM
projectors like the RX-350, TLs, LS460s, etc. Been running EvoX-Rs on my
car for over a year now. Excellent projector and I can see very far.

Tigerfire75 says:

Duct tape in those balists

John Klatt says:

I have a similar set of lights installed in my Honda as well. I installed
them about 4 months back, so far so good. Mine came with sticky pads
already on the backs of the ballasts and it had two LEDs on each “Bulb” one
on top and one on bottom. They are CREE LEDs though. I dig em.

Randy Pandy says:

That beam pattern is horrendous! I would imagine these are actually for off
road use only.

mrpissedoffdude says:

If you install these bulbs then you can’t put back the rubber dustshield if
your car has one

wantsanewvehicle says:

+EricTheCarGuy Can you please do a nighttime driving/driveby or just a
video at night about these ASAP? I have HIDs and have had hids for about 6
years now. However, I go through a lot of cars and when I get rid of a car
I let the hids go with it. My latest set of hids is crap. I could send them
back and get them fixed under warranty, but that is a PITA tbh, and I’m
wanting to go LED now for the instant on. I ordered 3k lumen bulbs last
month for my car (they are back-ordered until 10/14- so 4 more days from
now). I ordered 2 sets (highs and lows). The place I ordered them from is
about $60 more combined than the link you put in your description. There
are two reasons I ordered from the place I did- I had good luck with the
company in the past, and because they are 3k lumens (I’ve only been able to
find 2k lumen led bulbs so far). However, I know that cree leds are good
quality and I would be more than happy to cancel my order that I have to
save $60. Thanks in advance!

Audioquest56 says:

I’m impressed that LED lighting has come so far. I’ve done turn signals
and brake lights on my vehicles, but never thought about doing the
headlights until now.

dave1135 says:

I can’t watch the video, the ad freezes at one second and won’t let the
video play. >:(

YIC says:

hate it when people drive with highbeam behind you, it reflects onto the
mirrors and blind the shit out of me

treblarefils says:

Pretty cool pricing is not bad at all compared to how much i spent back in
the early 2000s to put an HID kit on my civic.

Plau's Pone Cornur says:

I’ve got a set of these for a 9007 socket, they are wonderful, but im
thinking about upgrading the chips to 4000k instead of 6000k

Eric Crown says:

So I guess your high beams are the regular bulbs beside it.

radz282003 says:

Excellent video. Ironically, I bought an LED kit last week, so this is
nice to see

Ustin Nuyda says:

what do they look like while driving tho?

leventis19 says:

there is a significant cause for concern for oncoming traffic !!

Garrett McEwen says:

Easy install for sure! Add me to the list of people that wants to see a
road test. Take it easy

Lee Rattle says:

Nice light kit …Now your vigor is worth twice as much !! with the value
of the new bulbs!! lol

László Tóth says:

Hi, Eric! Would be nice to see a picture of before/after on the road. If
the new lights are not so focused maybe they don’t put enought light in a
larger distance on the road itself. The garage doot is a good surface but
would be more interesting from greater distance.

hempfootball says:

No. Please dont leave those in without projector housings…

doctorno988 says:

These are an interesting product. They are a bit expensive though.

lalo1990lalo says:

How cool I’m glad you did this video. I’m planing to do it on my prelude

ExtremeFireRisk says:

Hey Eric, Would you recommend these as being appropriate (bright enough)
for high-beam applications? Been searching for some new bulbs that colour
match to my HID kit. Cheers!

Rob B says:

Not convinced on the pattern. It would be nice if you could get someone to
drive the car while you are oncoming in another car and report on the glare.
The problem with all of these lighting mods is that the original reflector
is optimised for filament bulbs. This optimisation is very good in quality
lighting arrangements and any variation in position of the light source
will have a negative impact on the tight focus of the beam. Therein lies
the problem. The HID and LED light sources radiate from a far larger area
than the original filament which is typically only 10x2mm and oriented in a
particular direction, because the light source is so much bigger with the
HID & LED’s light is emitted at angles not intended by the makers of the
reflector which causes the glare. IMHO wank factor fashion statements aside
if you want good lighting change the bulbs every year preferably just prior
to winter and note not all Halogen bulbs are created equal so get some
quality branded units

MakingBoost says:

Those ballasts will come loose from the adhesive in due time. You really
need to anchor them in place. Zip ties direct to that split loom would be
sufficient.

I don’t blame you for worrying about the rust, but you might want to think
about ballast to fan/pulleys/heat etc when they do come loose.
