In this video, I’m replacing the rear U-joint on a 2011 Ford F-150 using what I’ll call the “cutting torch method.”
Is it the right way? Probably not.
Are there a dozen different ways to replace a U-joint? Absolutely.
Here in the Rust Belt, sometimes the method you use depends entirely on what kind of mess you’re dealing with. The important part is getting the old joint out without crushing or bending the ears together on the driveshaft.
You choose whatever method works best for you. In this particular situation, I’ll show you mine.
