I miss the days when you could overheat your engine, pull over, let it cool, duct tape your lower radiator hose, and drive it to get some water to put in it. Repeat daily because your broke ass never got around to fixing the issue. (Leaking rad or heater hose, leaking radiator, etc). 60s, 70s engines with cast iron heads just kept on going. Now I appreciate my higher HP modern aluminum head/plastic intake engines, I ain't complaining, more like just reminiscing. My son got a Subaru and I been trying to stress to him about overheating and those Subaru heads.
Really hate the idea of plastic manifolds. Find your weight savings elsewhere especially on turbocharged engines.
Kids boy friend’s car was running hot. They finally asked for help to check coolant levels. This freaking thing was running hotter than the pits of hell. No idea how they didn’t blow up the engine. Turned out the thermostat wasn’t opening and it was just getting water from the bypass. Pressure was building up so much that it caused a leak at the hose connection to the radiator. They said it had been running hot for a couple weeks. Let them know how stupid they were for driving it that way. Replaced the $25 part and it’s been good since then. Hopes and dreams saved that car.
I hate it when cars kill themselves.
I can't see how the driver didn't know the engine was overheating, especially when that plastic water pipe broke and spewed water everywhere. They basically ruined the engine by ignoring the obvious. While the family's medical situation is sad, I hope someone has a good talk with them about what to do when they lose coolant (and oil pressure, for that matter).
Cmon Dave….. Hold that piece still and stop waving it all over so we can see it.
Same thing with Ford ecoboost oil pans.. they warp and leak. FordTechMakuloco did a vid on how to swap it back to the older metal one. Plastic just doesn’t work that well on engines… even the GM-3800 engines had problems with the lower plastic intake gaskets leaking until they changed them…
Whoever that was driving that Van at the time of this meltdown seems to have been REAL lucky that it did NOT catch fire?
Plastic and heat, who knew.
Why every car doesn’t have a low coolant, low oil level, low oil pressure, and high temp alarm is beyond me. How ,any engines would have been saved if those 4 items were mandated. US government, you want an idea on how to help your constituents, make the above 4 mandatory on all new cars.
Why collect MORE CHRYSLER JUNK
Next is the plastic block with steel sleeves. Build garbage, replace garbage.
Good I don’t own any of that crap!!!
