How to Install Springs on a MK6 VW Golf, R, GTI – [PART 1]

How to Install Springs on a MK6 VW Golf, R, GTI – [PART 1]

Come along on my journey to remove my lowering springs and install the oem springs. This procedure seems simple, but became complicated really fast. I apologize for the jumps in the removal timeline – I wasnt sure I would get the job done in one weekend, so I skipped filming some of the passenger’s side…

I hope you like this video and hope it helped. In the next video, I’m going to install the oem springs on the driver’s side strut, then reinstall that on the car. I will also install the rear springs (super easy!).

That first broken nut was being turned clockwise @4:21 !!
PB IS YOUR FRIEND here, broke it out but too late for the nuts though! If it doesnt come loose with a couple taps w rubber mallet some PB and a 3/4" socket extension then DO NOT force it!! Use a propane torch and apply moderate heat, moving between the nut and lowest part of the bolt just enough to warm the metal at the threads , THEN saturate with PB, particularly where the nut meets the bolt. Cooling the metal with PB makes its penetration even deeper to ease loose the nut.

Are those rotars on the wrong side? Or is it your camera?

ReelOne says:

Dude, you sheared them off because you went the wrong way LOL! Counter clockwise to remove, clockwise to tighten!

Zoom Team says:

What brake rotors did you install?

Luke AOD says:

Did you ever post a video on putting them back on?

I'm tempted to fit loweing springs on my 2009 mk5 – do I need to replace the topmounts and bearings too?  Thank you.

Cesar Girona says:

How did you get around not having to remove the axle bolt? Is that because you removed the control arm? I'm trying to find a way to swap my springs without having to remove the axle bolt. I replaced it a few months ago when I went to VWR springs and it was a bitch getting that final torque, so now that im going a bit lower Im trying to avoid this step at all costs (if possible) Thanks for any info you can get back to me…

I'm now scared to do my springs because I don't want to break those studs
