►While direct fuel injection systems have been wonderful for economy, emissions, and power, they can be pretty finicky. High-pressure fuel pumps and fuel injectors are known to wear out or fail on all sorts of vehicles. Fuel injector replacements aren’t too common on Volvo’s VEA engine, but the more miles an engine has, the greater the chance for injector failure. That’s especially true for vehicles in regions with poor-quality gasoline.

Fuel injectors aren’t typically a wear item, so there’s not much of a mileage range to look out for. Instead, you’ll get signs like misfiring throughout the rev range, a misfire engine code, and reduced power. Replacing a fuel injector on Volvo’s VEA engine isn’t rocket science, but it is a relatively involved job. Anything involving the fuel system can be catastrophic if mishandled, so follow the steps in the video to complete the job without missing anything.
