Volvo XC90 Front Brake Pad & Rotor Replacement DIY (2016-2021 Volvo SPA XC90 T6 Inscription, T5)

Volvo XC90 Front Brake Pad & Rotor Replacement DIY (2016-2021 Volvo SPA XC90 T6 Inscription, T5)

►Replacing your front brakes when they’re worn is responsible ownership. Worn brakes mean reduced stopping power, and that’s just not safe for anyone on the road, especially in a heavy XC90. Luckily, a pad and rotor replacement is a straightforward job that doesn’t require many tools or parts.

Your brakes will typically last around 60,000 miles before wearing to the point of replacement. When they get there, you be alerted by a warning message on the dashboard. You may also see, hear, and feel the wear through deep grooves on the rotor face, grinding, or juddering under braking.

In this video, Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro’s Professional DIY’er, replaces the front brake pads and rotors on a Volvo XC90 SPA.

Is this the same process as the s60 ? I can't find a video for the s60 and it's crazy it's only the suvs or older model s60's that don't have an electric parking brake

@channelforpeople9 says:

Hello. Do you have video about the Rear Brake Pads?

@slavrenz88 says:

The seal on your piston isn't seated properly because you didn't push the piston back in evenly (don't push on one edge of the cup, use an old brake pad with that caliper tool). Hopefully it doesn't cause issues.

Informative video overall, but a number of amateur mistakes here, including not cleaning rust off the hub/rotor mating surface before applying antiseize

@kdlange6052 says:

10:01 it’s better to leave the piston side brake pad in the caliper while using the caliber spreader

@kdlange6052 says:

7:52 should have cleaned all that before you put new rotor on

@kdlange6052 says:

7:31 you should use a clean pair of gloves when installing new rotor. As you can see he got grimy dirt in a couple of places on the rotor

@JasonDFD3S says:

I appreciate the details for each step. Thank you for helping us.

@Bestthereisplainansimple says:

Do you bleed them?

@sams.1597 says:

Really want to do this myself… use to always do my own brakes with my dad… but 3 kiddos 4 and under make this almost impossible from a time perspective

@bernardbeaullieu868 says:

Thank you for the very good video.

@AITA-NIM says:

Somebody should mention that getting those bracket mounting bolts out is a chore! I used my longest breaker bar and they fight nearly all the way out. Tried a little heat on the other side and it made a big difference. Looks like it came with red loctite on them. Great video, helped a lot.

@bksaun says:

Very helpful video, music is annoying as hell. But overall a great job!

@MdGd-d2b says:

Good video, but why didn’t you wipe off the dirty finger prints off the rotors?

@joseduranjr4963 says:

I just purchased a 2021 VOLVO XC90 inscription ultimate and don’t know which front brake package to order through FCPeuro

@bigdave_7168 says:

IDK who you are, BUT GREAT JOB/VIDEO. thx

@jasonjohnson1690 says:

Thank you so much, really helpful!

@ivygonzalez8003 says:

I did my brakes this weekend easy pezzyy with this video for reference. I appreciate your videos saved my $500 of labor.

@YakuzaMechanic says:

Everyone from the comments have the 11mm inbus? :))

@nate2188764 says:

Would this be the same on an XC60?

@luikasss says:

One thing I would add when installing the rotor… you should use a brake cleaner to make sure all the grease is gone
