Replacing a headlight bulb on an 05 V70. Similar setup to the youtube
video, but I seem to have maybe an inch of space between air filter
compartment and rear light assembly.

I happen to enjoy doing some of my own stuff, but is there a trick to
getting to the bulb without shredding fingers?

Thanks for the vid. I see some sites say it takes an hour to change the
bulb… really?

formegolf says:

Thank you! The instructions were spot on…

marquisBLZR says:

Thank you so much. I am a female and it took me under 10 min

Robert Scott says:

This video helped so much! I worked on this for an hour with no success.
Watched your video and saw the part about the old gasket. That was the
problem. Removed the gasket and was done in 3 minutes. Thanks!

Thanks!

Mike Bowman says:

The video was a great help. The gasket was the key to getting the new one
in. On a V70 you can’t see the back side, it’s all by feel. When I removed
the old gasket the new one went in fairly easily.

You’re welcome!

I think I figured out my issue. I have power washers on mine, which is
keeping me from getting in there. Discovered I have to disconnect and take
off the air filter/mass airflow sensor and pull out the air filter box to
get to it. Will work on it tomorrow, but your vid gave good insight as to
what I’m looking at (or actually not able to see) in there.

elvisandmick says:

@Keith Cook Excellent!

Awesome – glad it was helpful!

If a picture is worth 1000 words, this video then is worth 10,000 ! Easy.
Thank you, thank you very much. You saved me time and lots of aggravation.
I love my XC70, but it’s plain bad-design how Volvo designed the lighting
panel for servicing. Horrible. Maybe there’s a tool to remove the bulb,
because the opening and access space is meant for a 10-year old hand.

?????A says:

Thank you for the video! Especially the note about the gasket sticking.
Exact same thing happened to me and I would have not known to look for that
without your help. Its about 10 degrees F here so every second my hand was
stuck between that and air filter was painful.

fookazi says:

I have a V70 and have all this disconnected. HOW are you getting your hands
in there? I have maybe 1 inch between the air filter bottom and the back of
the headlight…

elvisandmick says:

I completely agree! I’m glad the video helped you.

elvisandmick says:

It’s not easy. Pretty much “use the force Luke” – I had to do it by feel,
using only the tips of the fingers of one hand. A total pain, obviously…
