KASHOKI says:

why is it that, others are criticizing using engine flush when changing oil

Clayton Earhart says:

what size wrench did you use to take out the oil plug?

FCP Euro says:

Depends on preference really, mineral blends get a bad wrap but they really
are a great option. Synthethics are what everyone seems to go with nowadays
and there are claims to support it being better but many people here at FCP
prefer mineral. Hope that helped at least a little!

ckoura33 says:

Very helpful walk through for a first time Volvo owner, much appreciated!

lexusfan100 says:

yup did and instead ordered a heavy duty oil wrench and it worked like a
charm. thanks guys. Any more Volvo DIY videos?

lexusfan100 says:

i purchased oil filter wrench from your online store. The part number is
A261. is that the same one you are using here in this video ??and if so
then what bolt size you used to tighten/loosen it. But if its not the same
as in the video can you tell me what size would i need then..thanks

lexusfan100 says:

would you be doing transmission flush anytime soon??

FCP Euro says:

We’ll put it on our to do list!

THEWEENIEMAN27 says:

Hey, I have an S60R, when I change it, you think it is a good idea to soak
that new filter with new oil before putting it in?

TreaHuggs says:

Per the owners manual they recommend Castrol

lexusfan100 says:

nice video..can i use same method for similar S80 models? i have a similar
looking engine as well.

FCP Euro says:

Can you give us a ring at 877-634-0063? Our technical team can help you out
with this.

SolarAbyss says:

You really shouldn’t need one. It’s only supposed to be tightened to 25Nm
(18 ft lbs). Mechanics like to over torque them so you have to bring it
back to them or buy tools from them.

endlesssummerlc says:

Great video, thank you for posting!

VicMitch says:

where u get the tool from to take the filter cover of? ive looked
everywhere, even volvo dont do them

Anil Konda says:

VOLVO is recommending Brake Fluid Change every 30k miles. Could you please
upload instructional video on Brake Fluid Change using Motive Power Bleeder.

FCP Euro says:

You’ll have to do a little work, oil dipstick needs to be removed under the
intake, also the lower trans mount and oil pan bolts. Not too difficult.

FCP Euro says:

It may have been a little excessive to say “mineral blends get a bad wrap.”
Jason (in the vide above) actually recommends that if you havent been using
synthetic, don’t start. The reasons being 1: It’s more expensive 2:
Synthetic is a thinner oil and you could develop oil leaks by switching.
You should be ok with a 10w-30 Mineral if you’re not already on synthetic,
and I believe Volvo recommends Valvoline. Are you installing the timing
belt yourself? We’ve got a video you know.

HTSSTR says:

I think insert the cartridge filter into the housing and fill it with oil
so that when you first crank your engine after the oil change, oil is
pumped up from the filter first… you don’t want it dry.

FCP Euro says:

We’ve added it to our todo list.

Anil Konda says:

Thank you. Eager to see that.

simul8guy says:

Hmmmm, I never shove the cartridge filter up onto the neck on the engine
block. I pop the bottom of the cartridge onto the ‘button’ at the bottom of
the filter housing and then screw the housing into the block. Seems to work
just fine either way I guess.

FCP Euro says:

Great, glad to hear you got it worked out. New Volvo videos hopefully
coming in the next few weeks, air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter are
on the list.

Matt Walje says:

I may need to replace the oil pan. Can I do that without pulling a whole
lot of car apart?

weedbgone says:

Awesome video man!!!! Not bad on the eyes too

FCP Euro says:

It’s not the exact same one but very close (we’ve put the links to the
parts used in the video in the description above). Also both the one we
used and the A261 use the same 3/8in drive, hope that helps!

lexusfan100 says:

ya i just did mine using this video and buying tools needed from their
website. Anyways i used full synthetic 10W30 (what the manual says). I did
2 previous oil changes from independent shop that was full syn too. Plus
Volvo has a longer service interval like 7,500miles. On a regular engine
its usually 3-5000 miles. So that was also the reason i went to full syn.
For my S80 Volvo recommends Castrol. But i went with Pennzoil. No problems
so far with full syn.

lexusfan100 says:

thanks. Also about oil. Should i use synthetic? the last oil change was
done @ shop and they used synthetic but the previous ones were blends..what
are your thoughts

cvaniaceq says:

Again, great video! I have been bringing my xc90 to the dealer for the oil
change, I believe they also use mineral unless you want synthetic. But it
costs much more. I want to start changing it myself from now on, question :
what do you mean exactly by “mineral blends get a bad wrap but they really
are a great option.” My car is @ 95kmiles now what brand do you guys prefer
? Is Mobil High Millage a good option? — By the way just got my timing kit
– great customer service! Thank you guys!

xmlover11 says:

A video of Brake fluid change would make my weekend a lot better! Yes
Please.:-)

FCP Euro says:

Yes, it’s a very similar process on the S80, this video should be a good
guide to get you going. Hope that helps.
