I needed a refresher and this video was most excellent for the quick look
at what I was doing, thanks.

FreshCoffeeParts says:

An excellent dirt stupid film showing you how to change the oil on the
Volvo S series vehicles. Your right about the oil filter wrench as there is
no other way to get the plastic filter cartridge cover off. I have the AST
V410 oil filter wrench and it works great to remove the cartridge cover.
Thank you for putting in the time to make this film.

I have Volvo S80 2003 D5. Can i use this method?

porkchop112699 says:

also, my 2002 s80 holds almost 7.5 quarts of oil

Kris Kasprzak says:

Thanks for providing a good tip!

BK Shaw says:

Is this the same process, I could use for my 2004 volvo s80?

lexusfan100 says:

would a 2006 S80 have same method as u mentioned? thanks

avolikk says:

i have a o1 volvo s80 t6 twin turbo, what kind of oil shouild i use? thanks

lexusfan100 says:

ya i got it to work..the metal prongs on the outside needed to be adjusted

Mingu Choi says:

Nice video. How do you get the residual oil out of the bottom of the pan?
Im sure there must be a little bit of extra oil down there.

Kris Kasprzak says:

@icklearly I always keep the car on the jacks when draining.

emk5 says:

Good job mate. However, you did neglect to mention the inclusion of the
aluminium crush washer on the sump plug. This is required to prevent
leakage from the sump plug. If you buy your oil filter from a Volvo parts
department, they will include a washer for an extra $1. I previously bought
my oil filters from Canadian Tire and they didn’t include the washer, and
I’d wonder why my oil would leak. And as a bonus the price is right too:

Kris Kasprzak says:

@418casey The stone guard is 3-5 pounds, it’s not real heavy, but a bit
bulky. i comes off easy, but getting it back on is a bit of a pain–you
have to crawl underneath the car, position the guard to align the bolts,
and—bolt it back on.

lexusfan100 says:

@timetotravel ooh ok,,.,ya its a Es300..what lexus are going to have..

Wren Wright says:

No it’s not. 19mm is the same as 3/4″, not 17mm.

Daniel H says:

Awesome! take good care of your volvo.. and it wil last for ever 😉

Kris Kasprzak says:

not sure but if you buy the filters on-line, the vendor should have a tool
i get my filters and wrench at ipdusa d-o-t c-o-om

mikeyBno1 says:

Great video…..really useful! !! Thanks

emk5 says:

@emk5: Fram oil filter from Canadian Tire – approx $24 CAD Genuine Volvo
part with washer – $16 CAD

Rich Ryan says:

took my oil filter cap off with a old timing belt no need for a special
tool

Alexgeo4975 says:

@Tahababa21 All Volvo dealerships use Castrol GTX, which isn’t a synthetic
oil.

Euclid218 says:

Hahaha, pretty funny how you call this guy a dumb ass while using the
grammar of a 4 year old paulsy victim. Apparently you didn’t hear him at
the end when he said to start the car to run oil through the filter and to
re-check it after that. Read a book or something and save us from your
ignorance before you go attacking someone you don’t know over the
internet… Not only is that ignorant, but it’s also very cowardly.

TheLordSVS says:

Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

icklearly says:

should I keep the car on the jacks when the oil is draining or should the
car be on all four wheels?

Kris Kasprzak says:

@MoniWooOOooooOOOOOOW Good questoin. I recommend calling IPD USA (where i
buy most of my stuff) and ask them.

Kris Kasprzak says:

@avolikk Good question. Many purists will recommend synthetic. I used to
use only that, but now that my car is worth just a few thousand–i use
cheaper stuff. I generally only use Castrol GTX. I’ll make the bold
statement that i’m not sure there’s really a difference. I suggest doing
some more research.

Kris Kasprzak says:

Don’t use anything but a 17mm box end wrench. The drain plug is already
rounded and has very little flats to grab on to.

Kris Kasprzak says:

@intricateintac Sorry dude. I’ve not got a diesel. The vids here are me
working on my own car.

J Proctor says:

You’re a good talker.

Chris Kerwin says:

hello, I changed the oil today on my 2001 s80 model. everything went well
but I ran into trouble draining the oil tank. it seemed the bolt had
rusted, or it was really stubborn and hard to take out of the tank. so now
that I’ve changed everything and reattached the drain bolt, it’s started to
leak. any suggestions? i’m wondering if I stripped the bolt taking it off
or worse, stripped the thread on the tank itself.

Kris Kasprzak says:

And to think I almost deleted hans kilas comment due to lack of value.
Thanks Euclid218 for stepping up and taking this type of belligerent post
on.

lexusfan100 says:

i have a other problem and that is to do with one of my license plate
lights. i tried changing the bulb, also tried different sides/positions,
and also adjusted the metal prongs but still the light doesnt lit up. I am
not sure what else i can do ..thanks

hans kilas says:

bad job my friend first u put a few liters in then u start the car so the
oil filter can suck up the oil dumb ass if u dont do that u not gone put
enough oil

Kris Kasprzak says:

I just let it drip for 5 min or so, I’m sure there will be some but not
enough for me to worry about.
