How to replace the ECT and avoid damage to the engine on the P80 Volvo cars, 850, S70, V70, C70, etc

ECT replacement: 30 to 60 minutes. ($95/ $215 / $390)

WARNING! If you strip one of the T40 screws on top of the thermostat housing, do not try to use a hammer and try to hammer a tool into one of those screws in an attempt to get a better bite in the screw. If you do, you will likely crack the lower thermostat housing and turn this 1-hour job into a 5-day job. Many people have tried and most have failed. If you strip one of those T40 screws, use this link to view a video on how to to remove that strip screw: https://youtu.be/kl8oQoItmZk

NOTE: I now replace these bolts with bolts from the water pump or intake manifold.

I used the socket on the extension method to loosen that rear fastener on my '97 850 T-5. Works like a charm. Thank you!!
