How to remove and replace the rear hatch on the Volvo 850 and V70 P80 cars. – VOTD

Rear hatch replacement: 30 to 45 minutes ($75 / $175)

In this video I helped a friend replace the rear hatch on a Volvo 850 wagon. This process is the same for all of the P80 Volvo wagons from 1994 through 2000.

Robert, great video, worked perfect for my 850. How do you swap the lock cylinder??

James Anderson says:

Do you know if the interior lift gate panel from a P80 V70 fits the lift gate of an 850 wagon? I found a lift gate spoiler with the brake light in it and want to remove the third brake light that sits above the wiper arm and replace the interior panel that doesn’t have the space for the third brake light.

Btw I really enjoy all of your videos and have learned a lot from you. Thank you.

I used vice grips to. hold hinge together didnt have help tip preset grips and if you don't like plastic flying remove pieces on side of hatch lol. the squirter hose I taped string to torque screw driver went up threw gasket tied to end of hose came out sweet just me and you all day

I have a set of LEFT turning twist drills that will sometimes get the damaged bolt moving out.

Robert, what should I do if my rear door (volvo 850) is ceased!?

Scott says:

So swapping a rear hatch from a v70 to a 850 is as simple as just changing out the relay? Everything else plugs right in? Besides the lock cylinder. I’m tired of a squeaky hatch

You made drilling that countersunk bolt out look easy :-D.
I've had more than one bolt lock up and snap off in aluminium, studs are typical.
It's not a material i like working with :-(.
Some bolts seem to make the drill drift off course, or it could be my crappy drills lol.
