We currently do not. However this video shows you how to remove the hub off a 99-05 Grand AM. If you follow this it will get you 95% of the way there. Once the hubs off, you need to remove the axle from the transmission. Copy and paste this video number into YouTube eB9mrc4K0-c
Do you have a video like this for the ’00 Red Grand Am?
9. Clean up old grease (rags/towels, then solvent, until all bearing surfaces are clean). 10. Load outer joint with grease. 11. Dunk outer boot in boiling water and spread it out, drag over the transaxle side bearings. 12. Load up inner joint with grease. 13. Pull inner boot over the bearing using same trick. 14. Clamp both clamps on outer boot and inner boot’s outer clamp. 15. Reassemble inner joint. 16. Clamp larger clamp on the inner boot. 17. Reassemble other stuff.
I just did the CV boots and control arms on a 98 S70, and in a pinch you don’t have to take wheel bearing and stuff. The only things I did was: 0. Take wheel off. 1. Take brake off. 2. Remove the plastic triangle from the arm. 3. Undo the two bolts holding strut to the wheel assembly (or whatever it’s called). 4. Undo control arm bolts (three) and take it off. 5. Cut boot clamps and boots. 6. Clean up mess. 7. Set stick to neutral. 8. Pull the CV shaft from the transaxle.
Thank you, sir
Exactly. It should hang freely so that you can take the axle out.
from 5:40 to 6:15 you lost me.. i had to go back a few times to realize what was going on. I assume i don’t have to do this step. Just keep the strut out of the way, not put it back on
It depends on what may be bad. If the shake is in the steering wheel but not in the brake pedal check the tie rod ends and also the sway bar stabilizer links for wear.
Its under normal driving conditions, and i just got my tires replaced. the shaking is significant. If its a suspension component, how much might this cost me. And what else might it be? could it be the cv joint?
If you have a shake in the brake pedal when you hit the brakes it could be a warped brake rotor. If there’s a shake in the steering wheel under normal driving conditions it could be anything from a bad tire or wheel to a worn suspension component.
I own this car, and I have been having trouble with a shaking of my car. I know my axle and suspension are fine, so would the problem be with the CV joint? Is this the piece that holds the axle to the car? Thanks for the awesome video!
Nice video. I did note that the torque spec according to Haynes for the CV support bracket bolts is 18 ft lbs, at least for a 99 S70. The 35 ft lbs you mention may vary between models.
I think it’s pretty cool that you do the CV too even for an unrelated video, you’ve got like 5 CV videos up which is good because not all cars are alike.
Props for taking the extra effort to make a comprehensive list of videos.
No you do not have to drain the transmission. This video will show you all of the steps you need to take.
OK, so i do not have to drain the transmission, just maybe top it off after? Please confirm. otherwise, great info thanks!!
A little bit may come out. You could put a pan under it just in case.
so the axle can come out without loosing any transmission fluid?
Very helpful, thanks for making this. I do wish you would have shown how to replace a boot but this is great thanks again
We currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular application. The basics could be similar.
Thanks for posting. Could you tell me if a 2000 Volvo V40 is any different? Mine RF is FUBAR!
