Michael Carroll says:

I had a serious leak for several years. Repairman said it was coming from the front windscreen. I had the screen replaced yesterday. The repair guy said there was zero bonding material on the top of the screen and he could push it out with his hand. Worse than that he said the front screen pillar was completely rusted away and the whole thing will fail soon. The back of the car is flooded with the carpet, mat and under carpet foam soaked through. Surely this is a recall issue. The windscreen replacement guy also said this is common in Volvos. Mine is a 2010 V50 which I bought new in Sweden.

Tomtresco says:

I took mine to Halfords they kept it all day and at the end of the day told me they didnt have a clue why there was water in my footwell, Then gave me a bill of £100 for NOT fixing it, I wish I had seen this Vid before lol

tomtresco says:

l couldn't understand why Volvo didn't charge me when I took my V70 in for this fault, now it's all making sense, l'm a bit annoyed that the service manager made out that it was him doing me a favour. Anyway I have to wait and see if its stopped leaking first.

David Lewis says:

While this may stop the water, the problem is really about the screen not being properly bonded to the body. The design of the body depends on the screen being part of the load structure and to do that it must be correctly bonded. Imagine if the screen wasn't there firmly fixed to the entire mounting flange. The open space would buckle like a biscuit tin. If the screen is only partly bonded, any stress could detach it and the upper part of the body would suffer reduced strength integrity. The windscreen is no long just a piece of glass to look through! Volvo know this and consequently they keep the lid on this dreadful QC failure and re bond the screen for you FOC. If the dealer is reticent, a little pressure and a reference back to Volvo should get it done no matter how old the car might be.

MrStangdawg says:

This is absolutely wrong way to seal a windshield. DO NOT ever use any silicone to seal a windshield.

Eric Liebe says:

My XC70 leaks from the center on the top of the windshield above the mirror. I have not found a solution yet.

D5DRIFT says:

This is an ok idea. But, they are common for leaking across the top of the screen more so.

Inevitably, you are putting off what really needs to be done. Have the windscreen removed and sealed professionally.
