Heater core replacement: 1 to 2 hours ($80 / $300 / $500)
In this video I helped a friend replace the heater core on his 2007 Volvo S60 GLT. It is a P2 platform Volvo so this process should be the same on the following Volvo cars:
– S60 from 2001 through 2009
– V70 from 2001 through 2007
– S80 from 1999 through 2006
– XC90 from 2003 through 2014

Is it necessary to drain the coolant to do this? I'm in college and don't have a ton of room to work. And security gets mad when we play with our cars.
@Robert DIY I uploaded a video of my poor 2000 S80 Volvo 2.9 wondering what something is that I noticed yesterday. I still need to see about how to get my heater core replaced. Leaking worse. At any rate I had a message show up saying "Engine System Service Urgent" the other day. Drove it home let it sit for few days. Had to go somewhere yesterday so I checked to see if message was still there and it was. I checked all the fluids etc then noticed that vacuum cover or whatever it is on the manifold. Unplugged it and the car ran better. I don't know what that is. I capped it back on and drove few miles then came home and message was gone. Either way, what the heck is that vacuum port and why would it be capped and and why does it seem to run better when I took the cover off. Thanks for all your videos. I see the thought process for just muscling it in without moving the steering column but I really can't afford risking damage to the new core. Can I disassemble the steering column at the point where the core may hit it or do I have to disassemble it from the wheel all the way down? Thanks for all the assistance. eBay seller was 'volvonest', contact them if they don't have the correct core listed – I just got one from them, same brand.
Just did this – great vid!! Just do exactly what the man says. a little tough getting the core & clips back in, but only took ~1 hour and I'm no mechanic.
I struggled for 4 hours but can't get the clamps back in. I only wanted to change the rubber o-rings. Maybe getting a whole new core will make the lines easyer to connect? It's now at the garage but they don't know this way and will be very expensive.

Great video Robert. Very usable. I am working on XC90 and should have more space to pull out heater core.Couple questions, did you drain any coolant? Did you have to disconnect those two heater hoses ( that need to be clamped ) on the firewall inside engine compartment ?

And out came the big hammer to remove the steering shaft he he 😀
I suppose you would have to remove the steering wheel and rotary connections, then undo the bolts/s on the splines to pull the shaft out of the way.
