It is a good tip to do a good oil change. I have a XC90 2004 T6 AWD, Turbo
seal is making noise, biturbo needs to be rebuild. The question is if you
know wath´s the easiest way to remove biturbo. Thanls in advance.

Luis Muro says:

Thanks for your information it really helps !

Jorge Romero says:

Gracias, Excelente ayuda.

Luis Muro says:

I just bought a 2004 Volvo s80 2.5 AWD, do you know if it takes 6 quarters?
of oil or 7 quarters? Thank you so much for your help.

alexjlinn says:

Excellent video! I found this very useful. Thanks for taking the time to
make the video.

Anthony Guardalabene says:

Wow… Looks like a simple oil change would be a huge pain in the ass. I
was looking at getting the xc90, but this kills the bottom line for me. My
03 pathfinder has a one part filter, just unscrew it by hand and slap a new
one on. No thanks!!!

TheTexasCoder says:

Send you an email from my work address, let me know if you get it,
sometimes spam filters block it 🙁

raroque12 says:

is it the same procedure for 2006 xc90 AWD

nikaileen1 says:

Hi there this video is great I do have s60 with the same engine

lexusfan100 says:

No not the oil filter housing . I am talking about oil drain plug bolt. Can
i use a socket type tool to remove that bolt. Or do i have to use the same
17mm tool that you have shown

M zabrinna M says:

Exactly. Take your time, don’t worry, for now, we just finished checking a
fuse, and we found out by the manual tha it was worned out, so we just
changed it and now, I can plug my cell phone to charge. The cigarrette
charger was not working before, and I read the manual and it was easy step,
just checked the little tiny fuse on the side of the driver left side door,
or next to it. It is amazing how little detail and attention will save you
a lot of time and money just to fix a little tiny thing.

TheTexasCoder says:

@Gersonngen thank you for the comment! I am glad the video helped. I try to
pack as much info into my videos as I can, without putting anyone to sleep
🙂

TheTexasCoder says:

When using a standard filter wrench, be careful, the filter housing on the
volvo is plastic, do not put too much pressure on it, and watch it to make
sure it does not crack or brake when using a standard filter (belt style or
clamp) removal tool.

TheTexasCoder says:

Thank you for the kind words, it is for folks like you and I that I make
these videos. So many videos out there just rushed through the steps and
didn’t help me to understand the “Why” behind a procedure. Thank you again
for the kind words and watching, I have more videos that I am going to take
and post, if you have any request, feel free to send me a message! Take
care!

lexusfan100 says:

i got it from FCPgroton site ( cheaper one tho). But still not suppose to
break. Well i put the old back. But i wont drive the car for few days tho.
So i think its should be ok. The thing with standard wrench is i m scared
that it might break the filter housing. So i will only use the OEM one.
well i looked @ advanceauto parts and they have OEM one (stronger one)
.part no is ASSV410. But will take few days to arrive. i will wait. i just
want to do a proper oil n filter change

M zabrinna M says:

last month, my washer broke, and i watch videos on you tube about fixing
washer machines. I found several ones that were similar to my broken washer
and same symtoms and i was able to find the problem and i was able to fix
it myself. It only cost me $6 🙂

gfhfmf says:

10W – 30 is too thin oil 😐 i think 5W – 40 is better for turbo engines…

Gersonngen says:

Great video I loved it very thorough good job man.

jfedwards333 says:

Thank you very much for sharing–quite helpful. I have a 2004 T6 with a
2.9L–is this similar enough that I won’t get thrown off? ! Mine has 177k
on the original transmission—just had it checked out, Volvo says it’s
still good, fluid is clean/was flushed 2 years ago, no sign of coolant in
it or slippage while driving so far (knock on wood). They shocked to see
that mileage on that tranny!

TheTexasCoder says:

@mamurao thank you for the comment and watching the video. I try to get as
much detail as I can, without being too chatty 🙂 I believe, the only
difference in your engine is the location of the oil filter housing. Those
should be located on top, instead of the bottom. So, if you were standing
in front of you engine, find the oil dipstick, and you should see the black
plastic oil filter housing at 11 o’clock, from the dipstick. If you get a
chance, please post a comment to let me know. Have Fun!

TheTexasCoder says:

@raroque12 Yes, if you have the 2.5L engine. If you have the 6 or 8
cylinder, I believe, the only difference in those engines are the location
of the oil filter housing. The 6/8 cylinder engine filter should be
located on top, instead of the bottom. So, if you were standing in front of
you engine, find the oil dipstick, and you should see the black plastic oil
filter housing at 11 o’clock, from the dipstick.

MrTominct says:

Thanks for the video. Only comment would be that in cars I need to start
the motor so to fill the oil filter housing. Until I do that the oil reads
a little high. I have actually taken to putting oil in the new filter so
the motor does not run so long without oil pressure. Maybe volvo gravity
feeds the housing so no running is require. That would be a nice feature.

M zabrinna M says:

i was trying to show them that it might be a sensor from where they took
the old windshield off. So, after a week and three days, i finally made
those guys take responsability and told them that if they don’t find the
problem, that i was going to bring my lawyer, so they took my truck to the
volvo agency and guess what??

TheTexasCoder says:

@jfedwards333 Thank you for the comment! I believe, the only difference in

the tranny, you should be fine as long as you have proper maintenance. Glad
to meet a fellow XC90 owner!

M zabrinna M says:

i also saw your video of how to restart the volvo. it is awesome !!! sorry
i worte to much , but i had to share this horrible experience i lived when
they replaced my windshield. Now, I became really interested in watching
videos like yours and i like to read manual volvo to be more familiarize
with my vehicle. It is important to me.

CenterionXL says:

Very good example how to add oil. I have found that I have 2 times less
then a minimum on dip stick . My first try was not good. There was some
round metal round plate which was not moving, but it does have a gap
between a wall. Now I am sure how to fill the oil.

M zabrinna M says:

so, i went to find videos on you tube about similar problems, and i found
very few similar to my problem and i just assumed that either some cable
was loose or something did not get plugged right or the sensor on the
windshield was not plugged properly, but this guys kept blaming me for the
problem by telling me that my volvo may have other problems and that i have
to fix something about it, “man i as mad” !!! i tried telling them over and
over again that the problem it was something they did

123908761 says:

Good video. Try lubricating the threads and rubber gasket on the oil filter
cartridge it will go on easier.

M zabrinna M says:

but like i said before, none of the videos i have watch before are as good
as your videos !!! your videos are very professional and full of knowledge
and wisdom, plus i love that what am i watching is the same as my truck,
identical. well, me and my husband appreciate your videos and thank you for
sharing them. Take care and God bless !!! your volvo buddies !! 🙂

M zabrinna M says:

the volvo agency mechanic guys told me that a rain sensor was broken, that
the guys at the windshiled place probably broke it when changing my old
windshield. “good grief”….so finally, they replaced the broken rain
sensor, and the wipers on my truck worked !!! I told them that they needed
to restart the volvo because i read that you must do that after you change
or apply new stuff to the volvo. It felt really good when i told them how
to do it hahahahah because I had read it on line and

TheTexasCoder says:

Oh I see what you are asking, sorry it was late when I replied 🙁 But, yes,
you most certainly can use a socket to remove this plug. Just make sure the
socket is seated firmly and completely on the bolt, so it does not strip
the bolt. Thanks again for watching and for the comments!

TheTexasCoder says:

Absolutely, I have a couple of more videos I will make of repairs and
maintenance. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

M zabrinna M says:

I was trying to learn how to change the windshield hahahaha, and i did
found the videos for it, and it was easy and very interesting, but for
that, i will let the pros do it since it is kind of delicate. So, we took
the volvo for a windshield replacemet, and those guys broke my rain sensor,
but at the time, they did not know of it, but i did noticed something was
wrong because when i saw my truck after they changed the windshield, the
wipers were working crazy, non stop and out of timing.

TheTexasCoder says:

Great question! Yes you can, the oil filter housing tool can accept a 22MM
socket or a 1/4″ extension. You need something on it, for leverage, because
the plastic housing can get tight with heat, and be difficult to remove by
hand.

M zabrinna M says:

I hope you can post more videos of other stuff about this type of vehicle..
Thanks !!! 🙂

victor trejo says:

i looking for a video to be replace a exhaust manifold gasket on my 06
volvo xc90 2.5, Im glas if have this video, thanks for you help…..

Ben Frawley says:

I needed this video exactly. 10/10 gold stars for you, my friend !!!!!

TheTexasCoder says:

@ted101975 I honestly don’t know, I imagine it is manufacturer preference.
The filtration housing is not as important as the filtration media itself,
something with a high micron filtration is going to give longer oil life.
Great question! I recommend posting that question over at
ericthecarguy…com/forum

Donna Johnson says:

where did you get the filter housing removal tool? My husband has been to
every auto parts store here locally & has not been able to find one

Abdullah Alsuhaibani says:

thanks for your explain, but i need the filter oil key so i can’t open the
filter by regular key.

TheTexasCoder says:

ASSV410 is the one I have, that thing is a tank. Give FCPGroton a call and
see if you can get a refund, or credit. I have done business with them in
the past and they have been pretty good. Sorry you’re having so many issues
with this oil change, I promise it is not usually this difficult! With the
old oil in there, if you have to drive it, just check the oil level and
make sure it is full. Keep me posted, any chance you live in Dallas? If so,
I can let you borrow my filter wrench!

M zabrinna M says:

I also have a turbo volvo xc90 2004 and I am so glad and happy that i
finally found videos like this online so i can keep taking care of my
volvo. Your video is next to perfection. All the detail and neatness and
patience and slow explanation is fantastic. I truly appreciate this. God
bless you and thanks for your videos I can learn more about my baby truck.
Thanks !!!

lexusfan100 says:

ok so i removed all bolts but the oil filter is pain in butt to remove it.
its soooo tight and the tool i purchased from fcpgroton online broke after
giving few tugs. now m soo mad. Maybe it wasnt a good quality tool. but now
i have drained the oil. so can i now put the old oil back in (since the
filter is dirty) dont want to mix old with new. And does a simple O-ring
type tool would work to remove the housing?

TheTexasCoder says:

@gfhfmf Very good point, I was just thinking about that a couple of days
ago. Next oil change I may go with a heavier weight. Thanks for the tip!
