thanks for the reply, I have never change the ball joints since 1992, and I wanted to know
only if you find they are bad, do not change them “just because” unless you feel like it.
I also have a 1988 Volvo 240 same color, If I change the rack and pinion, should I change the ball joints too???

loose steering, maybe steering wheel shake for the tie rods. Clunking, squeaking, thunking noise for the ball joints are some issues that come to mind. You can reach Jake on his channel Search “jakebelder”
what noise did your car make as you turned the steering wheel?? how did you figur the parts were bad?
