Here is my detailed procedure for diagnosing bad front wheel bearings and replacing them on a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 MK3. In this video, care is taken not to disturb the front end alignment while removing the old bearings. The key to doing this job easily is to use a wheel bearing removal tool kit which allows the work to be done with the steering knuckles remaining on the car. Otherwise, a traditional press would be required.
Here is the referenced video on how to safely separate the ball joint using an inexpensive special tool: https://youtu.be/ZcCfWmrVQfM
When equipped with the right basic tools and some patience, it is not a difficult job.
How different is it on the rear??
