I attribute the serpentine die off to 1. To many pops 2. The 45-60 minutes
I spent trying to insert the bottom alt bolt into a non-existing hole 3. My
camera light died. Thanks for the Bravo.

Thanks for the vid, it proved helpful today when I changed my thermostat on
my 1.8T. You saved me buying a new alternator because of the dowel pins
that need pressing back in. Of course they don’t tell you these things in
the book 🙂 Thanks again.

Eric Schott says:

you dont need to take the alt off, unclip the plug, take off the 13mm
fastener that holds the cable and the clamp and slide it out of the way,
and take off the vacuum block off the front of the intake manifold with a
5mm allen socket and slide it out of your way. Plenty of room to remove the
thermostat with a 10mm 1/4 drive swivel socket or ball ended 5mm allen

I put a large plastic tub under the car and just removed the therm housing.

Of all the repairs I have done to my own Jetta this video was the most
enjoyable to watch….116falconer….you are so funny and have a great
personality….thanks so much for the effort to post.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out VW has a valve on the lower hose
mount. I put a short peice of surgical tubing on and drained the radiator
directly into a milk jug. Nyce!

How do you remove the coolant?

Christopher Blahut says:

Bravo!. A rare bare handed alternator install without blood. The
performance died off a bit when you got to the serpentine belt. I certainly
learned where hang ups will be.

An elf made this video!!! Merry Christmas!
