Thanks! My key randomly stopped working one day (no remote function), could still open/close the car door and turn it on/off manually, but the alarm would go off between opening the door and starting the car. Opened the key as you showed, seems like the tiny circular metal plates in the lock button got out, so had to align them properly and now the key works again!

My whole key broke because I couldn’t get the board out of it.
Top tip: Once dismantled, use the blade of an old VW key in behind the key hinge to break the adhesive. You may need to half rotate the blade out to get deep inside the key. Then work around the edge of the exposed part with a flat-blade screw driver.
In my experience the key fob is bonded together you wont split them ,i used a soldering iron to melt carefully took an age , be really careful don,t want to damage the circuit board and chip inside ,if you can do that your home free take your time ,as putting it in the new case is not to difficult fiddle is all , i did this on my key fob golf 2016 mk7 TDi .
I'm stuck at 1.12 / 1.15 – prying near the key pivot doesn't seem to cause the two halves to separate. Any tips? BTW I found Torex 7 was the right size for the screw but maybe T6 is OK too.
