Thanks! The Castro oil changing places are now refusing oil changes for my 97 GTI and my friends 98 GL 2.0 unless we get the $75 synthetic treatments. I have 195k and the 98 has 256k on it. This will come in handy.

I can appreciate how it’s easier to get a cam to film in with jacking up. =)
Also like to have a look at what my car other than sump looks like, but since I jack it up ever so often anyway it’s just come a second nature to change oil without jacking up. Also saves you from risks if all you want/need to do is change your oil (taking away any risk that car will drop on you which might be good for people who don’t know how to do this correctly).
Anyway still a very good example of a how-to =)

Thanks. What you said is true. But also, if you’re somewhat “advanced” then you don’t need to watch a video how to change oil. You’d be suprised how some beginners question where to place the jack stands under the car. As for not lifting the car, that’s how I’ve watch my father change oil on his Toyota corola. I like to jack her up though so I can take a look around at things like CV joint boots and look for oil leaks.

The newer cars have a slightly different engine but the oil change procedure is pretty much the same. The only difference would be the location of the oil filter.  /John

No, you’re okay. My did changed his oil for almost 40 years and has never poured oil in the filter. Some cars the filter is mounted horizontally on the side of the engine and you can’t pre-fill them. /John

Yes it should be pretty much the same on an MK4. Multiply the quoted number of US quarts by 0.95 and that will give you the number of litres. /John

Id recommend only doing the 3/4 turn on the oil filter or else you will piss off whoever changes it next (which could be yourself haha)
