Alex Bohl says:

hey great vid. what tie rod tool are you using and where did you get it?

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Good to hear things went well! I forgot to list the torque specs… sorry.
The inner is 75 Nm and the outer is 50 Nm. Thanks for watching and taking
the time to comment!

Arthur Eng says:

I was trying to replace my outer tie rod, but the threads were rusted and
only the locking nut broke loose, but not the actual tie rod end. Now i
have to replace the inner tie rod, but is it possible to do the job with
the speciality tool offered at auto zone/pepboys for inner tie rod?

nashi cagado says:

Thanks for the video! I usually just cut the old tie rod with a saw zaw,
makes work easier and quicker

ricktbdgc says:

thanks to this vid I tackled this project myself no problem, and I didnt
need a special tool, just a cresent wrench and I got it torqued down at
least to 50 ft pounds, not sure what the spec is since its not covered in
my haynes manual.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

The inner tie rod tools usually slide over the rod… meaning you have to
either remove the outer end, or cut the rod so that the tool can slide over.

Not sure why to this date I have not yet added a sawzall to my tool box!
LOL… looking at the video now (with sawzall in my head) I can see the
time I could have saved… I’m buying one this month!! 🙂 Thanks for
watching & taking the time to comment!

Arthur Eng says:

I cut the rod with an angle winder. Slipped on the specialty tool and was
straight forward. I also got the bottom shifter fork, so I can use c clips
along with the oem tt short shifter, that should replace my excisting ball
retainer setup. Thanks for you helpful videos and comments.

Arthur Eng says:

I belive my car is a 1999.5 golf 2.0 with new shifter style, but i still
have ball shape shifter ends, i would like to upgrade to the c-clip style
shifter ends, is it possible to do this conversion? How do i remove my
excisting shifter ends?

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Google Search C-Clip Style shifter ends and you will find a DIY page on the
TDi Club Forums. If you can’t find the page, go to my exovcds Forum (link
in description) , start a topic there and I will post the link.
