I think I’m having this issue with my Mk5 Golf. One wheel spins freely but
the other doesn’t. I’ve noticed that on the affected side the cable seems
shorter as it doesn’t allow the ‘calliper handbrake arm’ on the calliper to
return to its rest position when the hand break is down. It’s winter here
and we’ve had many cold frosts. I think you’ve pointed me in the right
direction now. (Was going to replace calliper) Thanks.

Great video, thanks for the info. I’ve the same issue in my Fabia, first I
thought my caliper was bust, changed pads and reset the caliper, no help;
fit the handbrake return springs, no help; just to discover exactly what
you show – one side works flawlessly, the other one barely moves. will do
this exact same DIY (didn’t know the cable comes of in one part, good to
know!)
The Human Eye picks-up light much better than the Video Camera… at times
I did not use a flashlight because there seemed to be enough light. I’ll be
uploading a new version as soon as I get another chance to record the

Its nice that you put a video on You Tube on how to remove the parking
brake cables but your doing it in the dark I can’t a thing on how your

1997, but all i had to do was to remove the rear ashtray 🙂
Glad to hear it was that easy! We never had that year of A3 in North
America… we didn’t get it till much later. Just spent a week driving an
A1 in Germany for a week… nice car, shame that they don’t offer it here.

combines the two handbrake cables into one on an Audi A3?
